It can swing freely in a 360 degree arc, it's just the resistance through the automatic winding system and the mainspring.

That makes sense, but what's different in the other watches that allows the rotor to spin more freely? Today I looked at a Zenith and a Glashütte and neither rotor appeared to have the same motion as the Breitling -- a bit balky, for lack of a better term. As I typed that it occurred to me that neither of those watches was fully wound since they'd been sitting in dealer displays. Perhaps there was less resistance because of that?

Exactly! The other watches not being fully wound with influence rotor spin.

Post subject:	01 Rotor detentes?
Does the rotor in the 01 movement have detentes? When I look at the rotor, it often stops moving not quite at the bottom of the arc, as if there are detente positions, kinda like opening a car door. Same thing when it starts moving -- it doesn't begin rotating immediately as I move the watch, I have to rotate the watch a bit before the rotor starts to swing. I was just looking at some other watches in the shops and their rotors appeared to spin more freely. I'm not worried about it as long as it's normal.

Multiple variables - unidirectional winding vs. bidirectional, amount of power reserve, method of transferring rotor motion into the mainspring, gearing (number of rotations required for a wind), etc, etc, etc.
