Breitling just announced that they're now offering a 5 year warranty for all their inhouse movement based watches.

I wonder if this includes watches sold before the announcement too? And those that run out of warranty are now back?

It's sales since January 1st 2012, there are several threads on it already as it was announced at Basel.

I recently found some additional information about the warranty. My AD has a link to a pdf document from Breitling that explains a few details. The document is in French so I'm paraphrasing here: Aside from finally seeing the Jan 1, 2012 date in writing, the only really interesting aspect is that for the 5 year warranty, Breitling will provide free waterproof checks after 2 years and 4 years. Any necessary repairs to restore waterproof-ness are covered under warranty. If these checks are not done then the warranty will not cover damage to the watch caused by moisture.

And how many "normal" people know about this? Most of us here are not normal :uplaugh: :supereek: :tard: :whiner:
Why don't Breitling just publish it properly ???
Are the ADs even communicating this to the buyers today?
Surely there will be some Ts and Cs attached to the new warranty which if not complied with will void the fantastic 5 year warranty.
This is one example.

I don't know what Breitling is doing to communicate the policy to customers who bought their watches between Jan 1 and now but going forward there will be new warranty books (or warranty addenda for watches already in dealer stock). I certainly hope that the policy is well described there. I can post a link to the document I saw if anyone is interested but, as I said, it's in French...

There's a difference between posting these terms to the general public, versus making them known to the people who actually matter, which is to say those who buy the watches. I can't imagine the terms would not be spelled out thoroughly in the actual warranty information that comes with the watch. If there was something the owner had to do to maintain warranty coverage (e.g., getting the WR checked every two years), and Breitling did not inform the owner, such that the owner inadvertently let coverage lapse through no fault of his own, you can bet there would be some legal action happening. I doubt Breitling is that dumb.

Well, in that case I don't matter ;-) even though I got my TOC in 2012 and other than this forum and an informal message from my contact at the local distributor I have not seen anything saying that my TOC qualifies for the 5 year warranty never mind about the free water resistance checks every two years and the requirement to have it done.

I guess I need to buy a few more Breitlings to matter :-)

No, you absolutely do matter, and I stand corrected. While I would guess Breitling will update the warranty information included with the watches, if watches covered retroactively were sold with older warranty info, then Breitling does need to make a concerted effort to apprise those owners of the updated terms, especially if by not knowing those terms they risk voiding the warranty on certain types of damage.

Or maybe they will, eventually. After all, the first two years of coverage are the same whether you've got the old or new warranty. You don't need to worry about the WR checks until two years are up, by which time maybe they'll have told you about it.

Not too worried, just not much else to read/write about in the forum the last few days other than the great debates about the mid/high end watches :-)
As it happens my TOC is right now undergoing a water pressure tests and treatment but that will be a separate topic :-(
