Newbie to :lingsrock:

I know what I prefer but what makes more sense?

I am currently shopping around AD's for a Superocean 42 with Abyss Black Dial but can't decide which strap to go with it.

I prefer the Ocean Racer look and have lusted  after one for a while but the price difference of only £100 less than the Professional bracelet seems like the Ocean Racer would make for a poor choice from an economical point of view.

Perhaps I should get both or source the Racer strap later? What would you do??

I think I remember seeing the Racer sold privately for circa £200 but how much would it cost as an accessory from an AD?

As well as your advice on straps 'any do's or dont's' re this watch from the  guys who own a Superocean 42 would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Others will chime in but the accepted wisdom seems to be to buy on the bracelet and then add the strap. The reason is the bracelet is very expensive to buy afterward and isn't usually discounted. I like the freedom of moving from bracelet to calf to diver to croco etc.

Can't comment on the pro bracelet as I don't have one.
I would get it before the OR if it was my choice.
The OR is an awsome strap to wear. (I found it to be better that the diver 1 in hotter climates as it breaths better ie Holes)
I have an OR on my Ti Seawolf and would consider it a must have option,no matter what other strap/bracelet combination I had.
:D Enjoy your watch.

That makes sense on Pilot and Navitimer bracelets, but less price differential between OR and Pro II so really just comes down to choice.

At my AD when I picked up my SO I went with the rubber. BUT, when you say the bracelet is only about 100 more, thats when it comes with the watch. If you go and buy it later, it will cost you several hundred more. When I picked up mine, that's how the pricing was. I know, it sounds wierd. Others, please chime in if I'm wrong, but thats what I experienced last year. Your better off getting the bracelet first. You'll save more in the end.

List price is the same - list price of a watch is list of head plus list of strap / bracelet.

It's easier to get a discount with the watch, but the Pro II bracelet list is only about $100 more than the OR list regardless of whether bought standalone or with a watch.

Roff, you're probably right. I guess the Ocean racer on deplyment is closer to the bracelet than i thought. I may have been thinking of something else. But I could have swore it was different. I did get a hell of a deal on the watch, and we were throwing figures around. I guess thats why I'm not an accountant.

You are in best position to negotiate the best deal on both the bracelet and the strap at the time of buying the watch.
With a bit of luck and skilled bargaining you could end up paying the same for the new strap as for a good one used.

I like the way you are thinking :plot:.

I'm quite a good negotiator so I reckon it's both at the same time and drive the AD a bit harder.

Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed and brought me to the only sensible decision which is - either both at the same time or bracelet first and the Racer later.

What a delightfully friendly place this :lingsrock: forum is.

I'll let you all know how I get on  .
