Not long ago a friend gave me a very cool black Breitling ball cap, but I don't like to wear it since I don't actually have a Breitling. I have a dive watch (Eterna Super KonTiki), I have a chronograph (Omega Speedy Moon), and I have a mechanical GMT (Rolex GMT-Master II), which, I believe covers most of the Breitling major categories. I like Breitlings, but to be honest, the plethora of Chronomat variations confuses me. I don't do too many dangerous things, other than driving in urban traffic, so the Emergency wouldn't make sense. The one thing I should add at this point is that, unlike the other major Swiss manufacturers, Breitlings quartz watches are interesting and often attractive. Are there any models I should look out for as being extra desirable, and are there models to avoid because they bombed in the market place, and in the hearts of enthusiasts? PS: I had a Headwind in high polish with the blue dial, and it's one that I regret letting get away . . . |

The same movement is used in the Chronomat 44 and the Navitimer 01. And wessa recently showed us that he has all three.

Well than you would be in good company with most Navi owners, including me. While the slide rule is functional, most look at it now as simply an elemental part of what is the iconic Breitling. |

Are the prices staying firm, dipping, or rising on the pre-owned examples? Pre-owned Breitlings, like most brands (with a couple notable exceptions), are a very good value. It is commonplace to get a MINT piece, still under warranty, at about 50-60% of retail cost. |

I keep telling myself I will sit down with the paper sliderule guide that came with the watch and figure it out. Maybe someday, but particularly with the pieces that come with a contrasting color sliderule, like the traditional Navis (black dial with white subs and sliderule) the Navi is a tremendously versatile look. Pre-owned Transocean chronos are showing up now, significantly discounted. I nearly bought one a month ago. But if you miss the Headwind, and don't mind hunting a bit, they still turn up. |
