Hi All, I recently purchased a superOcean 42. I have noticed that it seems to be operating a little fast, approximately 5 seconds too fast per day. I do not claim to be an expert but this seems poor considering the cost of the watch. I'm just wondering if anybody else has had the same issue or if anybody knows what Breitling specifiy the timing tolerance at. GoldSmiths have advised that Bretiling advise a maximum of +/- 6 seconds per day on their automatic watch range, surely this cannot be correct? Any help would be appreciated. Alun |

Nearly right it has been certified to operate with COSC specs which are -4/+6 seconds a day. So +5 seconds a day is within this range and perfectly normal. By my maths this means your mechanical watch is 99.99% accurate...which isn't bad is it. |

Hi Alun, Welcome to BreitlingSource. I'm guessing your SO42 came with an instruction manual? If it did, it'd be worth taking a look. You'll discover a page that explains the tolerances of a chronometer. They are -4 to +6 seconds per day. While this may seem like a pretty big tolerance it equates to over 99% (i think it's 99.994%) accuracy. Not bad for a mechanical instrument! The manual is worth a read. Enjoy the watch. It's a beauty! Edit: beaten to the punch! |

It's also worth noting that the accuracy may improve a bit as the watch "settles in." You might find that it gains a bit less after several months of wear. Congratulations on the acquisition. |

As others have been said it's well within specs. It will tend to slow slightly after a few weeks as it gets used to regular use and if you lay it on it's back at night then you might want to consider shifting it to laying on its side crown up which may also slow it slightly. |

Mine ran fast when I first got it too(within specs). I've had it about 8 months or so. It settled down. |
