Post subject:  2012 Colt Chrono II
What does everyone think? I'm considering it as a graduation present to myself, as I love chronographs, and have always wanted a Breitling. I was also considering a Tag Heuer Aquaracer chronograph, but the Breitling sings to me in a way that the Tag just doesn't. I wonder if anyone has any advice for me on it, or opinions? The only post I've found about it was a guy who only posted pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this will be my first Breitling! The specific model number is A7338710/BB49/157A.

I have seen both the dark and light dial and personally I think they are among the best-looking of the new models. Not cheap for a quartz but you at least get a top-level quartz. Very nice bracelet as well, which I'm sure factors into the price. If that's the way you decide to go, great choice.

I was on the fence at first, but the new look grew on me. Seeing them in person was a totally different story, really liked them after that. I found the black my least favorite and really like the white. In the end I got a Colt II 44 (non-choron) for my wife in blue and she NEVER takes it off. Makes me wonder why I bought her a Cartier a few month prior. I can just get it on my wrist and will wear it on and off around the house just to check it out. I like the feel of the bezel better than my steelfish. Overall I really like it, the combo of brushed and polished is just right, it wears nice on the wrist. IMO, if it were only an automatic it would be a fantastic watch, and I would consider a white one for me. As quartz watches go I think it is top of the heap. I love the contrasting dials on a chrono.

Get what YOU like but just my $0.02 I'd take that Colt II over any Tag...well maybe not some of the vintage Heuers...but then they are not Tags, right?

Personally I'm really not a fan of that model at all. I don't like the styling and I personally wouldn't pay Breitling-money for a quartz watch...... but then that's just me and I'm the first to admit I'm a bit "old-skool" when it comes to Breitlings.

For me, Breitlings (and all other high-end watches for that matter) should be mechanical and styled... errr... "differently" to that one.

But then what I think (or anyone else for that matter) doesn't matter at all : all that matters is what you think, so if you like, buy it! :thumbsup:

I bought a new Colt SuperQuartz (2005 non-chronograf) in 2005, a year before the design went through
modifications. I have no gripes. The 8 year Lith bat will require replacing next year, the blue dial is read-
ily legible & stylish. The approx. 41mm diameter is ideal for my 6" wrist. I like this new generation of Colts
despite the 44mm diameters. They look more imposing, while maintaining their inbred lineage. I would get
one, but don't need a watch. I expect my Colt to pull an Eveready Bunny, precluding the need for another.
If you're going to commit, then the members here can literally support you through the entire transaction,
including a reasonable discount, so your finances won't take a direct hit from taxes, freight, etc. :lingsrock:

The thread is mis-titled no? - that is a Chrono Colt 44, 2011-, which replaced the Chrono Colt II [A73380], 2005-11.

Must say I don't like the new Colts - a bit too large for me personally and not distinctively B/ling, the bezel esp a bit Tag-ish. For that very reason, having fancied a SuperQuartz for years, I went and got a Colt Quartz II, ie one of the outgoing models, when I learned they were being discontinued. I understand the mechanical vs quartz debate, and unproblematically like both; and I liked the idea of a low-maintenance SQ which is going to be out by about 5 seconds every six months that you adjust for summer time etc. But as is said above, it wouldn't have made sense to me to pay big money (these things are relative of course) for a quartz. That's why the outgoing Colts appealed to me when cheaper and discounted. I also elected for the straight Colt over the Chrono because battery life was 8 yrs as opposed to 2/3; and the extra cost of the Chrono put it in good-mechanical price range.

But as with all these discussions, if you love it that's absolutely all that matters.

I don't think it is mis-titled, unless I'm misreading the Breitling website (http://www.breitling.com/en/models/colt ... /index.php). That's where I'm getting my info from. Speaking of the 2/3 battery life, is that two thirds of a year? or 2-3 years. I couldn't find any mechanical chronographs for the price of the Colt chrono, but you had better believe I'm already fantasizing over the Avenger I'll have no doubt talked myself into by the time Christmas bonus season rolls around :wink:

Battery life is quoted as lasting anywhere between 2 to 3 years.

Official name is Colt Chronograph II.

So sorry you're quite right. I knew the new Colt was called the Colt 44, so I assumed the Chrono Colt was the same. Since the 2006-11 Colts were often called the Colt Quartz II it's bloomin' confusing. (To me anyway.)
