I'm familiar with the traditional Breitling slide rule, but the one on the Bentleys is different.

What does it calculate?

I'd be interested in knowing the answer as well. There's enough people on here with Bentleys so someone must know why Breitling used this particular version.

There's a very good page on slide rule wristwatches here http://sliderulewatches.googlepages.com/history.html which notes that the Bentley "uses the C and CI inverted slide rule scales. The inner scale runs left to right, but the outer scale is inverted running right to left, just like the early Breitling manual-wind Chronomats."

But why?

OK, on most of the Bentley models you have a variable tachymeter scale (instead of the more usual slide rule/"flight computer" scale you find on Navis) which enables you to determine average speed whatever the distance covered, the time elapsed or the speed reached. I guess this is more in keeping with the automotive theme of these particular watches.

The manual devotes a fair few pages to the various types of calculation you can perform, but I've not been able to find a link to any kind of softcopy (and I'm not going to type it all out of the manuals! )

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the input D8.

Please don't type out the manual - it took me long enough to learn the E6B!

That sure does help, thanks.

I'm going to take a look at one this weekend.
