Post subject:  Dial swap options (or a lack of!)

I was just chatting to my AD the other day and it cropped up about how I'd like the SS Montbrillant Legende if it had the dial from the TT versions. (The only difference is that all the TT dials have gold baton markers instead of the silver on the SS models, EVEN THOUGH both models have gold hands. To me it would look so much nicer if the hands matched the baton markers.......).

Anyway, my AD said, "Lets give them a call and see if they'd put the black dial from TT in an SS case". As I say, the ONLY difference is the colour of the baton markers. The rest of the dial is identical. Guess what the response was.....

.... a resounding and categoric "NO". Why????

Yes I know it has to do with model numbers, and not being a "standard model", etc, but when you consider that they are more than prepared to throw layers and layers of diamonds on some of those hideous "Diamondworks" pieces (and so create a totally unique watch), you have to ask why they wouldn't do a simple dial change for another in the same model range.

I'm pretty sure that if I was a celebrity millionaire they'd be falling over themselves to do it.

That's a bit unflexible, I agree.

It's of course perfectly possible to get the dial you want anyway, but unfortunately not with a valid warranty as long as Grenchen says no. Sometimes a bit more custom manufacturing would be nice.

I find that surprising - I was told (and evidence supports it with my wife's) that you can put any standard dial into any standard case of the same model - in my case there was no phone call, they just placed the order with the relevant part numbers from the big dealer catalogue and wait 3 months.

It's amazing the lack of continuity there is between the different regions. Maybe you were just lucky to get away with it Roff, so maybe Breitling UK are just being a bit over-officious. :?

I think their problem is not so much adding something to a model, but more with removing something from a model. Their models are strategically designed so that you have to get more than one if you want certain features (imo). Letting you mix and match would allow you to make your "perfect" B, probably resulting in only purchasing one watch.
