What does that exactly mean anyways? And does B-ling have any?

From what I know it means that you don't have to adjust the date during a leap year. is that correct? Does the price of the watch usually reflect being a perpetual?

You're thinking of a Perpetual Calendar. Typically Perpetual Calendars are higher end Complications.. there is only 1 current production Breitling with a full perpetual Calendar.. the Breitling Mulliner Perpetual. The Olympus has a 4 year calendar that does not do leap years.. the perpetual does.

Admin is right about the Mulliner being the only current perpetual calendar model that Breitling do. However if you were in the market for an older one, back in 1999 Breitling did a perpetual calendar model as part of their Navitimer range - I can't recall it's name off the top of my head (*** UPDATE - it was called the Montbrillant QP). And in 2004 they did a limited edition, gold Navitimer model called the Quantum Perpetual which basically used the same 500+ part movement as the 2001 model. The QP's were made in small numbers (50 or 100 or so only) and they were pretty expensive at the time. I've not seen one on the second hand market since, so I would expect s/hand prices to be on the high side too!

I think both models were the same.. the earlier and the 2004 model. However I'm not sure where I sourced the information anymore.. I'll have to refer to the pages of the notes I made when I was creating the site.

If i recall correctly, the 2004 version retailed at close to $50K in solid gold...

is it any different when its a quartz compared to a mechanical? I noticed that my emergency is listed as a perpetual.

In terms of what it DOES, a perpetual calendar quartz does the exact same job as a perpetual calendar automatic - i.e. they account for the different number of days in a month, the months themselves, leap years etc, etc to ensure that the date doesn't ever need changing manually.

However, HOW the two types of watch accomplish this differs enormously - in a quartz watch it's just another bit of circuitry (big deal), but in a mechanical watch it takes a HUGE amount of doing and if ever there is a "grand complication", the automatic perpetual calendar is it!

You just need to look at how many parts in are in a perpetual calendar auto compared to one with less complications. For example the Navitimer QP has around 500 parts compared to around 250 for the "lesser" Navi's.

The new bentley Mark VI complication 29 is also a perpetual calender.

Thomas, Do you have more info on the two new Mark VI's that are coming out? I read that there is a Semi-Perpetual and a full perpetual coming out but could not find pics of the full perpetual... Also could not find specs on either.

The Complications 19 is the same movement as in the Navitimer Olympus
The Complications 29 is the same movement as in the Navitimer QP

I have pictures in a small Basel news brochure (of which I have exactly one piece).
I know, that the availability of the complication 19 is not too good (I have one on my wrist, one in the store) The complication 29 is available at my general agent in all versions.
