Post subject:  Well that didn't go well...

I'm in the market for my first "ling" Several members of the community have been a huge help already. Though I'd fire off a quick update/rant. I decided to give a local AD that I had not visited a try today. The experience was an absolute disaster! I'm struggling with the pros and cons of brick and mortar operations vs the convenience and price benefit of online operations. I think this was the last nail in the coffin my local options.

I booked an appointment with a representative at the store who came very highly recommend. When I arrived with my wife in tow, anxious to show her what I was looking and and to look try some pieces on to get her opinion I found that the rep "was not in". The person who let us in the store was busy with another client but we were welcome to look at the watches locked in the case.

After half an hour standing around bored with my wife the rep finally had some time for me. I explained I was looking for a mechanical non chrono dive style watch. The rep told me I was most likely wasting my time as the company was moving away from that "type of thing". I didn't even get to try a single watch on before I was dragged over to the Tag case. I explained I already owned a
Tag, this resulted in a trip to the Omega case and a whirlwind tour of quartz Divers watches.

After a few moments of awkward silence I was told to look online at a variety of companies and c
ome back when the rep had more time to help me "figure out" what I wanted.

Sigh.

I think your AD is a douch bag. Seriously not all
Are like this. If I were you I'd hit up fear or govberg or another site recommended AD go from there. I bought my ling from Sam at Andrew Micheals over the phone and he was great.

its AMAZING how bad some dealers are, whenever i see another watch dealer, i stop in and just check out the operation. What are they doing right, what are they doing wrong, i am constantly trying to improve myself and my staff, but i come across some stores where i am BAFFLED how they still are in business, its un real.
on behalf of breitling authorized dealers, i apologize for your experience. an email to the manager or owner might be in order as well.

I HATE when a dealer trys to sell you stuff you are not interested in. Ever shop for a watch and feel like you're shopping for a car? Yeah, this seems a lot like that.

My local AD while he's good he's really never available. He had 3 ladies that work his counter. The only problem is his main business is not watches it's Jewelery. The women know nothing about breitling watches at all. Most times they just open the case and I grab what I want. Too bad really but whatever. Maybe if I had a better more experienced sales person I would hv bought local instead of online.

Chris, contact FEAR via pm or George at Govberg jewelers. The other experience will be a bad memory.

Name and shame on the board, tell the owner of your experience. Also mention you are a member of a well established Breitling message board and its not been received very well. You never know it could work out in your favour.

I want you to chant my mantra It's my fricken money and you are never going to see it !!! I think your AD is a complete douche bag and a wanker . Why in the world would you even consider spending your hard earned coin there ?

You have a new job telling every one you know who would ever consider spending a dime there the type of idiots that are working there . These people are the worst of the worst. They are to lazy to listen to you and assist you with what you want . Who the f_ _ k do they think they are telling you what to buy . Remember its your money .

I agree with the others that this was an inexcusably poor experience you had. That said, I hope you don't conclude your only other option is to resort to online sales. Online dealers are not authorized retailers; they are gray market. As such, the watches they sell do not come with factory warranties, and quality control is questionable. Also, the prices are usually no better than what an authorized dealer can give you when discounting. (You have to know how to ask, or just as importantly, whom.) If there are no other ADs in your area, then by all means check out either Provident or Govberg. Both are authorized, and both are very highly regarded in this community.
