| Hi all, I've been looking through some old threads where people have posted what watches they own. I've noticed that a lot of members own authentic timepieces, but also own replicas as well. I'm having a hard time understanding why. If people are true avid timepiece fans why are they supporting the replica industry? Please help me understand. Thanks! | |

Hi, I don't there there are many on here who own fakes - certainly not amongst the regular posters. Those who have tend to have bought them long before they got into the genuine articles ; before they understood what owning the genuine item is all about. I can guarantee you that 99.9% of the regular posters would never entertain buying any kind of replica.

I'd say that nonggadin's collection of fakes is something of a minority on here. As I say 99.9% of posters are here because they love genuine Breitling watches.

| Hands up I bought a "Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date" over 20 years ago. Quartz tick tock but kept great time - now is right only twice a day! Cost me £21 - in Oman - in 1987 but I was only getting about £15k pa (tax free) and had just bought my first house. Boy was I skint! Now - well that's another story. I've bought (and kept) 2 genuine 'lings this year. I'm no better off - just got my priorities sorted out. | |

| Thanks Driver8 I really would have spent the money if I'd had it but there you go. Also it says something about my taste in watches. I feel that I've grown up now no offence to Rolex lovers) and first became aware of Breitling about 6 years ago when working in Switzerland. Took me a couple of years but I got my first one 4 yrs ago and would never - in my wildest dreams - consider a craplica now, even if it where 100% undetectable. | |

| I owned a Sekonda manual wind when I was 16 - that was a poor imitation of a watch | |

Yeah but no one would make a fake Sekonda - it's the UK brand name for a Russian watch - and mine was from before the fall of communism - you can guess the rest.

| I have a fake datora that I got about 2 or 3 years ago. I got it thinking it would be a good looking beater but it is such a piece of shit and a bad fake that I would never wear it. I has however spurred my interest in watchmaking because it is an auto so I took it apart (partially) and it just made me want to learn more. | |
