I tend to wear an outer shirt loose that has huge pockets. Keys, wallet, etc, go into it.
When I go through a metal detector I put my watch into the shirt pocket along with anything else I might have on me, challenge coin, etc.

None of it is sitting in the tray on the other end in the open and if I'm moving out I can just grab the shirt and go

If you travel quite a bit don’t wear any watch through the metal detector, as it has been said elsewhere you run the risk of magentizing it. This is from experience.
