Post subject:  Question About Airport Security And Breitling Watches
Hi all- hope everyone's day is going well- I will be traveling overseas soon, I was wondering has anyone experienced issues with their Breitlings while going through the XRAY machines, at the airports, will this cause damage to the watch? Hopefully not, and hopefully I may bring this true masterpiece with me. Hopefully this post is informative to others...and myself..

well, i am not 100% sure about this, as i typically do not travel with an expensive watch. but i will go out on a limb and say no. a strong magnetic field will damage your watch but, such fields also damage most electronics and of course people do not have problems with their electronics.

edit: well, that and i see people with nice watches at airports all the time. i wouldnt believe it causes problems unless a radiologist or some other radiation expert tells me otherwise.

I've never had a problem with my watches while travelling. The weak x-rays used to check your carry-on luggage isn't strong enough to do any damage.

The only "problem" I've had has been when I've decided to try the metal detectors and passing them without removing my watch - and that gives a signal...

I've past through airport security a number of times with my Super Avenger and have not experienced any problems. I would say half the time I wear it through the detector and like aleister noted sometimes it sets it off and others it doesn't :shock:

Depending on the airport they set the tolerance/ignorance level of the metal detectors. On a small domestic airport the tolerance is higher (meaning larger metal pieces can be carried through the detector) than on an international hub airport.

I've never had any problems either, but if you are that concerned you can always ask the security personnel to bypass the x-ray machine and chek the watch by hand.

As I understand it they don't have to do this with any item, but they generally do if you are polite and the item is 'low risk'. I imagine that as long as you can demonstrate that the watch works (they may ask you to demonstrate the operation of the pushers) they will be OK. They will require you to remove the watch and hand it to the security personnel - that much metal will set off the metal detector.

Isn't any activity that draws specific attention to a particular item (like asking them to check your watch by hand) an open invitation for them to snap on the old latex gloves and ask you to bend over?? :shock: In the current climate I think it's a good idea to be as "ordinary" as possible! :)

I'd certainly be prepared to show the copy of the receipt for the watch (I always keep copies of receipts with me in case customs get upset), but I don't particularly worry - although to be fair, most of my flights are domestic within Canada which may be a little more relaxed.

I am always asked to remove my watch for it to be scanned. Luckily, I fly out a small airport and I can keep an eye on my stuff as it goes through the scanner. At large airports where it is very congested, I would use caution to make sure no one is waiting on the other end to steal your goods. This can be problematic at large hubs with a congested security area.

I'm mostly concerned with theft when putting the watch through the x-ray machine, so I usually tuck it deep in my shoe. As Jerry Seinfeld says, "what criminal mind could penetrate this fortress of security?" :)

I wore my watch through security in March when I flew without a problem. I wasn't asked to send it through the X-ray machine.

I just put mine through the machine on the tray, and try to keep an eye on it. Maybe ill ask them to do a hand inspection next time.

Thanks everyone for all of the answers...very informative..even the jokes...ahahaha. I shall see..I am not sure if I will travel with it..some have said they have had no problems.. so hopefully the same goes for me.
