Post subject:  Which Breitling to buy?
I'm new to the world of Breitling but thinking of purchasing one nonetheless. I've previously owned a Rolex Sub Date so leaning towards the Chronomat 41 due to its smaller diameter size. I find Breitling to be a much more modern and youthful (I'm 27) brand with an overall refreshing design concept versus Rolex. Regardless, any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

If size matters and is important to you, then the Chronomat 41 is a very good starting point for a Breitling introduction. Lot's of debate on Rolex vs Breitling design on here but I fully agree with you on this one. Besides, I think Breitling needs new blood like yourself compared to die-hards like some of us here.

I have a Rolex Submariner But the Breitlings feel alot more wrist friendly. Any one is great it is how it feels and looks to you.

At the risk of making this an unhelpful post.....

I would suggest that you just go and try as many on as possible and see what 'speaks' to you.

This is solely a preference thing. Like Roff said, try on and see what you like.

The Problem when I did this was, I liked all of them!!

I agree with you JBerg, I think the you can relate more with the Breitling with you being 27. As for my suggestion, a SuperOcean Heritage will be my next watch. But, it all comes down to which one feels the best on your wrist.

I don't think age has anything to do with owning Breitlings. I'm 63 and I love every Breitling I own. Maybe they are keeping me young. I still think I am 27. :D

As others have already suggested it's a very personal thing and going into an AD to try them on is part of the fun in the whole process anyways.

I agree with you 100%! But, in terms of Breitling vs. Rolex I think someone around the age of 27 would relate more with Breitling. I actually just bought my first Breitling today. I'm 24 so I can relate with Alex.

I'm a firm believer that age is only a number! If you feel 27, you're 27!

I come from a family of Rolex wearers, with 4 of my cousins wearing Rolex daytona's, 2 with submariners, 1 with a gmt master II, we are all within 1 year of age (I'm 28). My parents also have matching Rolex presidents, but I happened to like the look of Breitling more when I went looking for watches recently. Their argument for owning a Rolex is its retention of value. Personally I never plan to sell my watch so retention of value is a non factor.

The salesman at the watch store where I was looking at was trying to pitch me on in-house movement. I'm new to watches, so I really don't understand. But from what it sounds like, they are saying some watches internals aren't made "in-house"? Meaning the outsource the pieces and Breitling puts it together and slaps their name on it? But he told me the Breitling for bentley models are all in-house, as well as some of the navi-timers.

This guy is wrong. There isn't one Bentley model that is in-house.

Well, the salesman was lying (or doesn't know a damn thing!) when he said the Bentley models have in-house movements because precisely none of them do! A couple of the Navitimer models do though.

There's a ton of threads on here about in-house movements, so do a quick search to pull them up, but essentially you are correct when you say that in-house (or manufacture) movements are designed and made by the company making the watch. Usually (but not always) that means you will not find that movement in any other brands watches. 99% of all other Swiss movements that you will find in all manner of watches from Hamilton's to Tag to most Breitlings and a lot of Omegas are made by one company - ETA (who are owned by Swatch). Some companies "modify" these ETA movements to a greater of lesser extent, but essentially they're all the same base movements. To some people (myself included) in-house movements are worth the extra money for the sake of knowing the movement is made by the company itself. Other people couldn't care less. Horses for courses at the end of the day.

Thanks for letting me know. I see the benefit of in-house movement now. Still happy I have the bentley motors though, It's a beautiful watch. But guess I more researching to do, before I buy my next watch (hopefully in the not too far future).
