Who's tried this, how did you do it, with which color and types, and how did you like the results?

I'm just not a fan of white stitching on every strap. I'd like the option of stitching that matches the strap color. I find it strange that several outfits copy the Breitling straps, but don't offer color options on the stitching.

The only exception I've seen is TWB black, and that's only for tang buckles. They say it works with deployant, too, but I'd prefer the deployant cut for that, without holes.

As sharkman said in another thread today - sharpie works.

Somewhere on here are before and after pics I posted with a black croco.

When I discovered this place, I read a bunch of old stuff, and saw one of your posts saying you had some dye, and were thinking about using it. I also saw your post about using Sharpie in the other thread today. How did you like the result? Maybe someone will remember where those pictures are.

Obviously, I'd like to hear different stories from different folks. This could be an expensive proposition, experimenting on Breitling straps in different colors, and possibly ending up with less than satisfactory results.

After literally less than 5 minutes with a permanent fine point black sharpie. A lot more margin of error on black. If I was doing it on a brown strap, I would use a color a couple shades lighter than the strap, at least first. I would hesitate to use it on a calf because the surface f the strap is so porous.

Thanks for the pic. Were you happy with the way it looks?

I should get my gray alligator "Breitling" strap delivered today from stonecreekstraps. Jeanna can do whatever you want on the stitching - everything is custom and hand made by her. Burrnished or rolled edges. Any length. She will even make an alligator strap to work with the Breitling deploy for rubber.

Yes and no. I'm not big on black straps to begin with. In the end I think I would stay with contrast stitching on a black strap, BUT the touched up stitching looked like factory black stitching.

I've used Edge Dressing (used on shoes and boots by military) to do the job.
Great results in my book...Also have used to die knife cases and gun holsters.
Looking at a knife case right now I did 30 yrs. ago.Got a holster I did in 1968,
so it will last.

What's nice about the Sharpie on the cotton stitching is you really don't need to do much - the cotton sucks the ink right out of the tip.

I figured it would work like that, with a Sharpie, or with a paintbrush and liquid.

I gather you've done it only with black. I'm pretty much interested in black to start with, because I think it works nicely with my black face Navitimer World.

I just want to have the option of something dressier than white stitching.

Black calf...Tried a marker, but mine looked purple...So I grabbed the Edge Dressing.
I think it is really a dye, but shiny. It's real black. Different markers...try one if it isn't
right....try the other.
