I have been curious about this for some time. It seems to me that the contrast between the hands and face of some of the white dial models is very low. Is this a style point on breitling's part or is it related to the lume? I love the bold white hands over black dial on my SOP. Stark analog is great for eyes over 50. Easy to read even if not in focus. I was just looking at the Avenger Seawolf Chrono on the Breitling site and the hands just blend into the face. Are these dials easy to read in field conditions? |

Yes. It depends on the angle of the photo. Of course a dark dial will always have greater contrast and legibility. |

It's not really a Breitling thing, a lot of companies still use lighter hands for light dials. |

I agree, white hands on silver/white dials can be hard to read sometimes due to poor contrast. This is a big reason I don't have a white dial piece. I also don't like so much polished markers on black dials for similar contrast issues. Nothing better than heavy white lumed hands and indices on a black dial. With that said, I believe Rolex on their new Explorer II model, put black outlines on the hands and indices on the white dial version - definitely helped with the dial contrast. |
