Hello all,

I have been lurking for a while now and have just created this account in need of your expertise.

A Bentley GT has popped up in my area. I have gone and seen the watch the model is A13362, with a black dial (may be the ice dial, it looked like it to me but I'm a noob, in other words it did not look matte black but rather black pearl) The seller purchased the watch locally in Vancouver in 03/10 and so it is still under manufacturers warranty for another 2 months and then the AD's for another year. The watch was just recently sent for polishing by the AD and comes with a black leather strap (435X) with a folding clasp and a polished stainless steel SS2 bracelet with all the links. The receipt, all boxes and all paperwork / certificate are included in the deal. Everything was in exceptional condition.

I met the seller last night and he gave me until today to make a decision on the offer price. He is asking $5,000.

Will there be any upcoming service that I will be required to complete to keep the watch running optimally?

I have been constantly looking for an Airwolf lately to no avail, but always loved the Bentley line, since this piece has become available locally I am even more entyced, even though its above my intended budget. I don't mind wearing it for 6m-1y and selling it either, just want to know what others think about the resale of this watch and where it is headed in terms of demand.

What is fair market value taking into factor that it is a local deal, has all accessories (boxes, papers, certificate, receipt, extra links etc.), SS2 Bracelet and 435X Black Leather Strap with folding clasp?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the ramblings, but I wanted to get it all out there as I've got to run, i'll be checking in often.

Please Help

Look on eBay and find something comparable, a quick scan shows a few around $4,500. Though you do get it locally, at the same time you lose out on the ability to purchase this on your credit card and the seller saves on Paypal, shipping and/or eBay fees if he were to list this for sale (yes, you do get the extended local Time & Gold warranty which I think is a huge bonus, but I'm looking at this from your negotiation standpoint). I've seen 2 of these on the Vancouver Craigslist on and off for a few months now so you shouldn't feel rushed since they aren't selling. And if you're considering just "leasing" this then consider what dollar amount you would be able to re-sell this for - if it isn't selling for $5,000 now what will happen if you buy and resell it later? The watch will be a year older and now out of warranty.

Thanks pkeung for your response!

A few thoughts,

I am active on eBay and I have not seen one with this colored dial, only seen with the matte flat black dial. Also, most on eBay have the older SS bracelet and are older watches in general (2004ish).

This seller is pretty well-off and would not even consider selling online. He has told me that he has someone offering $4,500 but since I met him first and have been communicating for the past week that I have first dibs and can take it for $4,600 or $4,500 without the leather band.

Many sellers on eBay have the older watch / bracelet or do not ship to Canada, or if they do I don't want to get the package shipped with less insurance than is needed and then I am afraid that if the value is $4,500 then I will get charged $500 or so on duty.

Pkeung, the 2 you have seen on craigslist, is one just the case asking $5,500 in burnaby and the other this watch (black bentley GT in downtown)?

I have seen the case alone for sale for quite some time. I contacted him and he is a very rigid / rude seller, with no bracelet or no boxes / papers nothing and is asking $5,500 but willing to go to $5,000 which is still way overpriced in my opinion, especially without the bracelet. He has a leather band with it now though.

What do you think? Would you be interested in this watch at all at $4,600 given the circumstance? I'm sure I can sell it in 6m-1y for $4,200-$4,000 what do you think?

I notice your in Vancouver, your not interested in selling any entry level piece out of your collection are you? lol

So, are you saying that if I can make a deal for $4,500-$4,600 that it is a fair deal?

Was your the SS1 bracelet or SS2? Leather band included as well?

Was that $4,500 before tax or after?

Sorry, forgot to ask, how long ago was this?

We are usually paying more for the same product just for living north of the border.

I haven't owned any of my current Breitling's for even 6-months so I'm not bored of anything just yet! Plus they were purchased new so I wouldn't be prepared to unload at used prices right now. Who knows, if you do buy this one and sell it in a year I may then be selling some of mine by then...

In the past month I've met with 2 different, local Breitling sellers and I thought they were too expensive comparative to what I saw online, and I don't think either sold even though one seller claimed he could get more than I was willing to pay but I have seen him re-post a few more ad's since.

I think you've done your research on the value of this in the used market so you need to decide what you think makes sense but it sounds like the $4,500 mark has been confirmed as appropriate. As for further re-sale, there seems to be a lack of local demand so you need to decide what you think you can sell it for in a year on eBay, and most importantly less any fees, and is that worth the cost to have the watch for a short period of time? Doesn't sound like a bad deal overall to me.

I'm not 100% sure if that $4500 price included both the croc strap on deployant, but the bracelet was brand new.

I never buy a watch with the intention of selling it in 6-12 months later.
Having said that, this argument has been used in negotiations with Mrs. Wessa in the past :uplaugh:
The key question here is do you really like the Bentley or are you looking at it just because it popped up on the radar in your area.
You mentioned that you have been chasing the Airwoolf for a while. If you honestly love the Bentley as much as the Airwoolf than I would go for the Bentley. After all the Airwoolf is a quarz watch and the Bentley comes with a mechanical "work of art" movement which what Breitling is all about IMO of course.
Also with the Bentley you have a very clean purchase - trusted source, box, papers, warranty, no import taxes and what seems to be a very reasonable deal.
Try to get both the metal bracelet and the leather strap included in the deal.

Wessa.

Thanks guys for the helpful input.

This will be my first watch. I began looking around a few months ago and the Airwolf caught my eye, both the Sunburst dial, striped dial and even the Airwolf Raven.

A few friends of mine have Bentley watches (6.75 and Bentley Motors), not a GT though.

Currently being a student my budget matched the Airwolf, however I do have the funds available to purchase the Bentley.

I really like the Bentley and after months of waiting for a local Airwolf I saw this Bentley posted up last week and the more I learned about it from the seller the more I liked it, needless to say when I went to see it in person I was blown away by it's beauty and the overall package itself.

Your responses are much appreciated!

I have never been so on the fence about a purchase, I've been thinking about it all the time and don't want to regret missing out on this deal.

Seller has given me an extension until 6pm tomorrow to decide.

Truthfully, as time goes on I am leaning more and more towards the purchase.

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone but damn is it exciting...

What is the service schedule like for the GT? i.e. how often are you supposed to take it in for service?

5 - 7 years just the same as any other Breitling and cost will be $550 - $600

As people have said try ebay and other sales sites for price guides as current market conditio but you should pay +/- how ever good the deal is to you.
In your favour its a local sale so no risk of lost parcels etc.

It seems that the ones on eBay are not selling or being bid on even, this is what is discouraging me.

Seems that everyone who has the money to buy this watch will go buy it new or want the newer model (with the diamond pattern dial).

Few more hours to decide whether to pull the trigger :guns: or let go

At this point, I am leaning towards just going for it and letting it ride, only thing holding me back is the assurance of being able to recoup most of my cash if I do end up having to re-sell in the short term.

This decision would be so much easier if the price was just a tad lower, but the seller is firm on $4,600 for everything.

What does the BS community think of this model?

Anyone had a Bentley GT recently that they sold? Have tried to sell recently? or are looking to buy recently?

Would be great to hear from some of you with your depth of knowledge on the matter, your thoughts on the Bentley GT compared to other Bentley models or Breitlings all together that you have owned or do own?
