I've looked in several locations and can find no comment on this. If you are storing your watch...Days,weeks months, do you store it with the crown in or out/ On water-proof...... screw down or loose? My thought is loose to take pressure off seals. comments..... |

Doesn't make any difference. If the watch is in rotation then it's probably safest to screw it down because of the risk of forgetting, but for storage there's no practical impact either way. |

Obviously not stepping on Roff's toes here  .If the watch is battery operated - in my experience store with the crown out so that the 'movement is immobilised' (hands stopped) which can extend the life of the battery. At least this is the case with my TAG which spends very long periods in storage as my spare.

Watches tend to leak based on age so preserving 'battery life' (actually storage) also increases the risk of leaking and an expensive movement replacement. |

Of course Roff, good point but then again - is that the 'might' or 'what if'? Is that not possible with a normally worn daily watch kept within it's servicing periods - if a 'defect' battery was in the watch. I'm sure that must be 'possible' too. I'm being devil's advocate here I know. My TAG is only on it's second battery and it is over 10 years old (easily) and no probs to date.

Top tip No need to feel like that Andrew  .I'm sure there must be 'risks' involved in practising this like Roff said but I am also sure that daily wear also carries it's risks too - so does living for that matter  .To be honest, when I bought my TAG I remember seeing the advice in the instruction manual for it that 'if you were expecting not to wear the watch for a prolonged period - you could preserve batt life by leaving the watch with the crown out (ie everything stopped). Unfortunately, I no longer have the paperwork for that watch otherwise I would have scanned that recommendation and posted it here. Anyway, still rock .

I live is South Florida - humidity level is high most of the time. I understand that an open crown should not be a problem - but why risk it. Screw the crown down. Battery or not why risk it. When I pick up a watch that has been out of rotation I always check the crown to make sure the crown is screwed down. Okay - there has been a few alcohol induce weekends where I didn't. Why chance it? Just me. |

I agree entirely mrbill - I didn't mention about the humidity if you live in a very humid area or in the tropics as I thought that was a bit obvious (I shouldn't do that as sometimes things that seem obvious to me may not be so obvious to others) .Yes, if you live in a very humid part of the world such as Florida or the Tropics - it would be best to leave the crown screwed in, humidity would play havoc with the internals of a watch over a period of time. I live in the UK where humidity is not normally a problem but I have lived for a period in Belize in central America (with over 90% humidity) and that is tough on everything.
