I am about to purchase my first new Breitling. After considering a number of different brands and different options, I've decided to replace my current everyday watch, which is the chunky Longines Aqua Conquest chronograph, with something more lightweight and functional. So I've settled on the Breitling Aerospace. Whilst I was initially a bit uncertain about going back to a quartz watch, I've decided that the great functionality and accuracy of the watch is just what I'm looking for as an everyday watch. Now my only issue is that I've found a current model aerospace with one dealer, with the new style textured dial in black, but also found one of the slightly older models with the slightly simpler dial, again in black, at another dealer. They are both offering the same price which is a really good discount. So now I've suddenly become very indecisive! I was trying to decide in the next day or two as I'm heading off travelling. I was wondering what the general consensus was with Breitling aficionados, as to wether, at the same price the new model represented a better buy or if the older model, looking closer to the original, might be considered a bit more of a classic. Any thoughts on this to help me overcome my sudden bout of indecision would be much appreciated. |

It always comes down to personal preference with any watch. I like the size and bracelet of the later Advantage but like the dial layout better of it's predecessor. |

Thanks for the advice - but that's the problem - I'm not sure which one I prefer! One is in one shop, the other is in another shop. I went to the first shop, had a good look at the older style Aerospace model (2010 model) then went to the other shop and had a good look at the new model - then couldn't decide and went home to ponder - looked at some pictures and info on the internet - then realised I really couldn't decide - hence my post! Would be really helpful to see them both lined up next to each but its I'm lucky to see a model with the black colour dial that I want in stock let alone a present and superseded model in the same shop. After trying them on I'm really happy with my choice of Aerospace - so will hopefully really enjoy either. I am probably leaning very slightly towards the older style as I think I prefer the battons for the hour markers rather than the numbers as on the new style dial - the old style dial looks to be have a simpler, slightly less busy face. Looking forward to owning my first Breitling! I'll flip a coin tomorrow if I can't decide by closing time! |

And your bought which one? I would vote for the batons and simpler face. That is the one I have so I am completely biased. I have seen the newer version in person and I just don't like the new style. Above all else, enjoy your new watch. |

Although I like the texture of the new dial, I feel that the arabics look too similar to the Victorinox XLS-MT (or whatever)....not that anyone could confuse the two. Obviously you tried on the Aerospace at the shop....what did you think of the weight? or lack of The non-helpful bit: To me, it's like I'm not wearing a watch - I often forget that it's there! Yes it's very functional, but I think I prefer the operation and heft of the B-1 - or its successors. |

I strongly prefer the new dial....the old one seemed bland to me, but the textured dial really pops (IMHO). It's a great watch, and you'll love the functionality. Had a B-1 for a bit, then received an unsolicited offer to buy it I couldn't refuse, so sold it....well, I mised it so much on my last trip to India that I decided to replace it (which was always the plan, but you know how it goes). Anyway, that movement is really the only good option for a GMT watch that works for India and 1/2 hour timezone changes. I know it's not everyone's problem, but if you wanted another reason to buy it....there you go! |

Thanks for the comments - I went for the older (2010) model in the end. I put down a deposit then will pick it up in a few weeks time. I'm looking forward to owning my first Breitling. I decided I preferred the slightly simpler dial in the end - which has more similarities to the original Aerospace styling - and maybe looks a bit retro and a bit different. I did like the new textured dial but it is maybe just a touch too busy and maybe, as 1952 suggests, just a little bit more generic looking. I actually quite like very light-weight feel of the watch. I'm planning on using it for sports such as golf and swimming as well as wearing it for work. My current everyday watch (I meant to say Hydro Conquest above not Aqua Conquest) is really chunky and heavy so I'm sure I'll notice the difference but it will hopefully be a good change. I do really like the B1 and its replacement the Airwolf Raven. The Airwolf Raven was my first choice when I started looking at Breitling but was disappointed to find out it only had 50m water resistance. I use the chronograph function on my watch to time my workouts and laps in the pool so it seemed a bit pointless buying quite an expensive watch that wouldn't fulfil one of my regular needs. Other than that I would have gone for the Raven or B1, but I'm sure I'll be happy with the Aerospace. |

Ive had a few of the old style Aerospaces, and to be honest although i prefer the new style due to the back light, I don't think they are worth the extra pennies on the second hand market. IMHO. |

It's ironic that one of the nicest Breiltings around is also one of the cheapest.... The Aerospace really is a fabulous watch which I didn't really appreciate until I owned one. Making it 42mm was a big forward step for me and IMHO the nicest version is the 2007 - 2010 version before the pin stripe which was a bit of a backward step. If they want to make it perfect Breitling should make the alarm as loud as the B1. Here's mine.

I own the B-1 and Omega X-33 as well and the Aerospace is by far the most comfortable watch to were because of the light weight and the lower profile on the wrist. I also prefer the earlier non textured dial. My ultimate Aerospace would have the newer case size and bracelet with the older dial. You will not be disappointed in your new purchase.  Try it on a Breitling leather strap as well.

Great photos. The one I've purchased is an October 2010 model so would have probably been towards the end of the run before they brought the new dial out, or maybe there was overlap with the production of the newer model - not sure. Anyhow it will look the same as yours in your photo Shalako. Definitely happy with my choice and looking forward to wearing it. |

All this talk about the Aerospaces has me thinking about them again so I purchased a 2007 EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) black dial Advantage limited edition. Should have it in a couple of days and I'll post a pic then. |
