Post subject: | getting different dials of the same watch |
2 years ago when I first started my watch journey I remember seeing people having different dials of the same watch (one guy on TRF had 8 different Subs) and thinking to myself: what a silly thing that is. Then, when I was buying my first SA, I was really torn between the 3 dial colors and the Blacksteel. After some consideration, I decided on the white baton, but still can't get over the fact that I wanted the black steel or the blue Arabic Dial just as bad. A while later, I saw a BSSA on sale here for a good price, and still feeling torn between the different dials, I decided to do the silly thing and bought my second SA, telling myself that's a completely different watch (LE, special process, numbers instead of batons, etc.) Yet still, the blue Arabic dial singed to me every time I see it. Now, I am again considering buying another SA, and that desire vs. reason conflict is again taking place in my head, I just don't know what to do. Any opinions, similar experiences, and recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ben |

it happens all the time. you love the watch and then want variations of it. it is possible to acquire different dial colors and as long as you have a good watch maker they can switch the dials for you. as for the guy with the 8 subs but different dials, at one point i would have thought that he was nuts but after owning a sub i can understand the madness |

And yes, I do have to agree about the Subs, I myself have a blue Sub and a Sea dweller, different watch but similar looks. I almost wanted to grab the LV, but had to restrain myself. |

When you think about it, anything beyond a $20 Casio is insanity. So you might as well embrace the insanity and get the watch you love. |

More than once I considered looking for a white dial headwind in addition to my black dial. I have decided not to each time in the name of variety. Too much fun to have different styles. |

I've certainly had multiple variations of much cheaper watches. I believe it comes from identifying with a given design so much that you feel defined by it. As such, you feel the need to have one available in the right variation for any/every occasion and venue. But this is prohibitive at these prices - at least for me it is. So, now I pay close attention to the one with the features that absolutely move me the most. Determine the one that first made me say wow and why. It may not always be color, often it is subtle architectural features. That becomes the one I buy. But hey, if money is no object go for it. |

I think everyone here is saying go for it if money is not an issue. Money is always an issue, I guess it's just how much I love it. Anyways, I think I'm going to look for a decently priced diamond bezel blue Arabic to add to the Triplet collection. |

My take is that there are SO many watches and brands that i like, i couldn't see myself having two of the same watch. My Colt GMT was too much ressembling my CSO, even if the dial was a different color. I ended up selling. I like diversity. If i had a collection of 50 watch and money was no object, i might get two of the same watches in the same color. But with the budget for 2 or 3 watches right now, i couldn't have two of the same. An option for casual/sport and a dressier option seem appropriate for me right now. |

Aaaaaaahhhh! Ok. Well then, the answer is neither intellectual, psychological, philosophical, or metaphysical. It is simply this - get what you want! Watches, we are talking about watches!!! Each person gets what he wants for his own reasons. That's it. ![]() Now if you will excuse me, I need to get back to solving the international economic crisis, creating peace in the Middle East, and ironing out the final wrinkle in cold fusion ... before midnight. ![]() Sheesh......... ![]() |
