I was wondering what the purpose was of the numbers (1-4), at the 10 o’clock and 11 o’clock position, on the dial of some models of Avenger Seawolf Chrono? For that matter, why would this model have north, east, south, west, on the dial? I know that it is possible to find directions using the time, and the sun, but that is only if the compass notations are on a movable bezel. So are both these features simply for decoration?

The countdown marks between 10 and 12 are for a countdown timer in yachting where the start of the race is counted down from 10 minutes. The compass on the rehaut is largely just a design feature.
