I have a 14 year old stainless and gold Chronomat. I know this will seem odd, but overnight the sapphire blue watch face somehow turned gold-colored! I was pretty bemused and confused by this occurence.

I hadn't done anything different - no scuba diving or other extreme activities. The watch is performing perfectly, as usual, keeping near perfect time.

Has anyone out there ever heard of such a thing? Is this a problem that needs immediate attention? It's been more than a month and as I mentioned the watch is working flawlessly.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Have you owned the Chronomat all 14 years? That's quite the anomoly.. you might want to try submitting it to scientific journal! You mean it was all blue one day, then all gold the next? Pics!

Yes, I've owned it since new. And I'll swear on a stack of Breitling Owner's Manuals that it happened overnight. My first thought was: "This is not my watch!"

I'll have to look for a picture of my watch pre-transformation, but I can assure you that the face was once sapphire blue and is now a not unpleasant, uniform gold. Even the tachymetre turned gold. The white lettering is still white. The only drawback is that the hands and face are the same color....

It is truly odd.

A few months ago I bought a brand new Bentley GT. After 4 weeks the outside of the dial began turning a goldish brown where it was white. I took it to my tech here in town and he said it was due to the watch not being sealed properly. I took it back to my dealer and they replaced it with the Full Sized Bentley Motors edition. If it turned like that overnight I would bet it has something to do with a defective seal.

I have heard of that problem with Citizen divers Watches in tropical areas. The combination of heat, light and vapor of salt water can damage the dial.

It is the first time I hear that from a Breitling.

I would check the watch for waterresistancy, also make a close inspection of the hands for corrosion.

I'm just blown away that this could happen overnight on a watch that you've been wearing (assuming no drastic changes) for 14 years

I have seen the oxidation of a white dial turn a somewhat rusty color... but only on the edges.
