Post subject: | Breitling watch question |
Hi everyone. This is the 1st Breitling I have ever owned. I got this watch from a friend and it is not working. I took it to a jewler and he said he is 99% positive it is not a fake but I will take it to Moodys Jewelry in Tulsa this friday to make sure. I really dont have any money in it so if it is a fake then im not too worried about that. If its real, then that is better. The watch is well worn, a few light scratches in the Crystal, it is a Superocean Professional. On the back it says A17045 and has a number under that is 1902. If this watch is confirms as real, about how much am I looking at to get it repaired....basically a fresh overhaul....all the metal polished up like new, new crystal or repolished.....made to work again. If it can be made to like new condition, about how much would it be worth? Thanks to everyone for your help, Shawn |

Thanks for the help Shawn No idea of the cost but please consider keeping it beaten and banged up and not polish it. It is a toolwatch and looks great with all the dings and dents. Just a mechanical repair and perhaps a new crystal if needed and you'll have a gorgeously cool watch on your wrist. |

I'm sure others will chime in, but it looks like a fake to me! |

I'm no expert but it looks fake to me too. Sapphire crystal shouldn't scratch up like that. |

![]() Quote: Sapphire crystal shouldn't scratch up like that. True but the A17045 has a mineral crystal. It looks like a battered but real A17045 SuperOcean Professional to me and is from 1998, the only year this model was made. It would need a full service from Breitling. Last price I have is 2009 and was US$320 so probably a bit more now. Replacement parts as needed would be extra. It looks like a new crystal would be needed which I think is around $250-300. Only by letting Breitling have the watch to examine would you get an accurate figure on costs. It would be returned like new and with a 12 month warranty. The advise on here regarding valuation is always to check eBay and Chrono24 to get a feel for market prices in your area but my guess would be that around US$1000 would be a realistic figure if fully restored. |

Definitely real. In this condition I suspect that it's only worth restoration / repair if you are planning to keep the watch, otherwise you may well need to put more into it than it is realistically worth, but only Breitling can give an accurate estimate after inspecting it. |

Thanks everyone. I have had 2 jewlers tell me they are 99% certain its real. But these 2 Jewlers have had Breitlings in their shop, but are not an authorised dealer. I think I am going to keep it if it is 100% real. My friend wanted an Ipod so I gave him my old one that I have had since they first came out..it was just sitting and hadnt been used since about 2005 or so. SO basically, I dont have a penny in it. I was considering selling it, but if it takes $300-600 to get it fully restored, that is approx about how much I guess it would be worth. I am not a watch guy, but have had a couple of lower end Rolex watches and while I have been working for the Dept of Veterans Affairs I guess it would be a nice watch to wear to work. I was going to buy me a new watch in Jan anyways and was going to spend approx $2500. 00... Maybe I just might have me a nice watch after all once its definately confirmed as being 100% real. If its in fact fake..I will just toss it. I will take it to Tulsa this friday and see if Moody's Jewelry can 100% verify. Thanks everyone, Shawn |
