Post subject:  Trusted Online Dealer Question

I just spoke to one of the trusted dealers listed in the trusted online dealers list thread as I am interested in a SA. I was told that they do not send the warranty card with the watch as they keep it on file in the event the watch requires warranty work.

They said they do this to protect the AD where the watch came from. Is this a concern? Is this standard practice? Does it effect the resale value?

Thank you for your assistance.

I've only limited experience of non AD purchases but have never heard of this!

I suppose it could make sense but maybe they would hand over the warranty booklet after the 2 years is up.

I wouldn't go for it tho' as it is a bit over the top in my opinion.

"trusted" = no warranty card? Erm....a no-brainer - walk away!

This is normal for 'grey' dealers. The usual reason is as you have mentioned regarding protecting their source AD. Grey dealers buy all their stock through ADs, but in order to stop Breitling finding out which AD is on-selling it's watches the warranty booklet is normally not part of the deal. You'll find that for most respected grey dealers, authenticwatches.com, prestigetime.com, interwatches.com etc that this is usually the case.

They will provide their own in-house warranty instead.

Andrew is correct. This is fairly normal practice... when you send your watch in for warranty work.. the online dealer sends it into Breitling for repair under warranty and then they ship it back to you afterwards or some do the warranty repair themselves I assume.

These are not AD's.. these are online grey market dealers. Some Grey market dealers rip out the last page with the dealer name punched in.. and some include it. But many do not include the warranty booklet.

Man is all this concern over grey market dealers really worth the risk? I mean, won't most AD's work with their customers a little on price and give them the local customer service without having to worry about all this crap. :(

I guess it all comes down to a) how much you are prepared to pay, b) your certainty that you can spot a fake, and c) how much the papers mean to you.

If you want a bargain, you are confident you can spot a fake and are buying from a decent on-line source, and you are prepared to take a pragmatic view on the papers (i.e. if you prepared to take the risk that if something goes wrong in the first 2 years you will have to pick up the tab for repairs), then buying on-line is a good option. If you can't live with these points, then an AD is the only way to go.

Thanks to a referral from a member here, I have purchased a SA from an AD at the price many online sellers are asking. Thanks to everyone for their assistance!
