Hello All,

I hope to learn a lot...I have already learned a lot here but of course am happy to continue learning...

I have a Breitling Old Navitimer (II if I recall correctly) bought new in 1993...was a late wedding gift from the wife...now divorced.

I hadn't worn the watch much since the divorce as it wasn't in exactly the configuration I wanted and it reminded me of a bad marriage however it is too nice a watch to let sit in a watch box unused...

as it 18 years old and has never had a service, I am thinking of having that done but the AD I bought it at no longer exists...there are AD close by and I have read other threads and agree with the wisdom of having it serviced by Breitling USA...would you go through a local AD or contact Breitling USA and deal directly with them?

Does anyone have a rough idea on cost for the full service on a Navitimer? (if this is not allowed, I understand)

Mine is not a COSC model but would it be once it has been serviced by Breitling?

sorry for the new guy questions but my other wrist watches do not compare to the Breitling and I hate to admit, I had been thinking for years of trading mine in on another model so I would not think of the past (marriage) but I don't wish to cut my nose off to spite my face... :wink:

Welcome aboard.

After 18 years, it's pretty safe to say that a service is definitely in order! :lol:

You can go to any AD and ask them to send it to BUSA, or you can go direct to BUSA yourself. Some things to remember - if you go direct to BUSA, make sure you call them first so they can confirm exactly what and how you send the watch in. You will also need to sort out your own insurance. If you go via an AD, the insurance is their problem, but they will no doubt charge you for the privilege. Personally I go direct to BUK as I've never been overly convinced with how many AD's treat customers watches...... but that's just me.

I'm not sure about the service price as I am UK based, but someone else from the US will no doubt chime in soon.

Your watch may well come back keeping time to within COSC tolerance, but it won't be guaranteed to be. In other words, if it's not running to COSC specs, you won't be able to ask BUSA to regulate it free of charge. Obviously you can ask them to regulate it better (if they can of course) but they will charge you for it.

your answers are appreciated and about what I expected as to COSC...I don't need the COSC certification but thought if they took it all the way down and then back again and since they certify all their watches today that it might...I would probably go direct with Breitling USA after I call to get exactly how they would want it sent and some estimates...

Breitling appears to have removed the PDFs with pricing from their website, but a standard service is going to be in the $600 - $650 range. Don't be surprised if Breitling finds some other items that need attention, after 18 years there are likely to be some worn out parts.

thanks...it has sat for much of that time...sad to say if it has been worn a years worth I'd be surprised but like many mechanical devices...sometimes the sitting around is worse for them...thanks for the quick replies...

In modern watches the servicing is driven br breakdown of the oils and that is at a predictable rate regardless of use. The only good thing about it sitting is that there will be less wear and tear caused by running without lubrication (and that is effectively the state that the watch has been in for the last 10+ years).

And ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY take it only to a Service Center authorized on the Breitling Website. No exceptions.
Nice watch, don't think of the divorce, you are over it (i did that, been there) the watch is super! And your ex would drop if she would know! Trust me, you moved on with your life and the watch is the proof... There!
