Post subject:  Newbie saying hi
Hi all,
Just recently decided to make my first breitling purchase. I decided on a white face chronomat evolution on pilot bracelet. I live in Toronto Canada and I'll be travelling to Las Vegas next month and I wanted to know the MSRP for the watch in each country to know where I'll get the better deal.

DMB,

Go into La Swiss in T.O. - they will tell you what list price is. Just remember that you won't be paying it!. Got mine (Cockpit) from the new store at Yonge & Bloor and paid less than list with taxes included.

I went to the same store too, and the list price for Chronomat Evolution is CAD$5200. So should I bargain on the price?

That's a no brainer - definitely don't pay list. That's a new store and I get the sense that they are prepared to be a little more aggressive to build their customer base. Whether that means you get a better price or just an easier time getting to the price they are prepared to live with I don't know, but you should be paying less than that with taxes in.

I am no expert on pricing having only just bought my first Ling, but I looked at the online prices, factored in duty / taxes / rate conversion and then considered how much extra I was comfortable paying for the peace of mind of a local AD.

How do you calculate the duty? Is there a web site to get the rates from?

The Canada Border Services Agency sets the tariff rates for all imported goods - their homepage is here - http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca. I won't post a link to the PDF for the watches and clocks section of the tariff (duty rates), because they change regularly. However, standard import duty on watches is currently 5%.

In theory you might not be charged depending on how the package is identified on the declaration and what percentage of parcels actually get checked, but I wouldn't want to rely on getting away with it on a package that is identified as a commercial transaction for a watch with a value in the thousands.

check out Chrono in Vaughan mills. They are the outlet store for La Swiss. you should be able to get a good deal there.
