Just got the December WatchTime and the Chronomat GMT is on the cover. Haven't had time to study the review yet, but they liked the movement, "useful pilots' functions" and the "very high-quality clasp" (they tested it on OR, obviously with deployant). They didn't like the low contrast dial (white / silver dial version tested) or the lack of display back. It scored remarkably well: 9/10 for strap and clasp 4/5 for operation 9/10 for the case 13/15 for design 4/5 for legibility 8/10 for comfort 18/20 for the movement 8/10 for the rate 13/15 for value I'm a little surprised with some of the scores - design and value for example. Design was described as "contemporary, striking Breitling pilots' watch design with various tracks and polished surfaces. Impressive size." Value was "Priced fairly for a big pilots' watch with a manufacture movement from a respected, well-known brand." They listed price on OR as $8,570, but when you think that this is pushing $10k on bracelet I can't agree on value. |

In comparison to an IWC BP, one could easily could call it a good value. Moving on... |

I'd agree with your assessment Roff. I'd probably put it at a 10/15 in the "value" department but agree mostly with the other scores. Seems like the design/styling is getting mainstream recognition - or is the assessment here more a nod to the fact that style subjective? Were there similar positive professional reviews of all those Zeniths that went off the rails? |

is it possible that this is an ad-vitorial? |

It's always odd how people are aren't invested so much in a brand's heritage (unlike us lot!) seem to warm to new models far quicker than the more die-hard fanatics. The funny thing is though, I would agree with most of the scores, although like everyone else I'm surprised design scored so highly as the multitude of fonts would (to some) seem like something of a design faux pas. When I tried one on, the overwhelming issue for me was the size, and specifically the length of the lugs : it's huge with a very long case, and IMO that sort of size doesn't suit a watch like the Chronomat. It really struck me as nearly SA territory. I would also question the value but only to a certain degree, as I don't think it's that bad when you compare to some other brands out there. I'm sure if the design was more appealing, people would say that it was actually fairly decent value. |

I'm a little surprised on the value mark, but pleasantly. Is it possible that the in-house movements are "launching" the brand a head a bit? I tried one on the other day, and was a little shocked on how large it wore. I don't mind a big watch, but would prefer this in the 45mm range. Still a gorgeous piece. -Don |

It looked and wore much smaller than I expected. |

I'm no expert but I would have given 10 on 10 for the clasp as well as for comfort. Just my personnal opinion. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk |

FEAR wrote: as far as value, please tell me how many swiss made cosc in house movement gmt's cost less. my guess is not many, and if they do, its not much less No arguments, but even ignoring prestige, movement history, etc, etc a score of 13 / 15 implies (to me) that this piece stands out from the crowd in terms of value relative to it's competition. Like design, it's subjective to a degree. |
