Would a 2008 model year SO that has hardly been worn need servicing or be good to go for several years?

So long as it is keeping time within or near COSC specs you should have about 4 years before routine service.

The "hardly worn" part should not matter unless you mean it has been just sitting stopped for a couple years, which can mean a service sooner than a daily wearer.
