Post subject:  What is involved with a dial change?
Are there any risks involved with a dial change? Watch damage?

My AD has offered to trade me dial colours on my Skyland. I currently have the blue but am torn weither to trade for the slate dial he has offered. Im assuming that they will swap the dial in house and am concerned about having my watch go through open heart surgery. Is this a risky procedure? What about the warranty?

There was a similar post a while back and I believe it was said that in order to change the dial you have to open the casback and remove the movement, then change the dial from the front of the removed movement (after removing all hands). That operation should absolutely be done by someone authorized, otherwise it is quite likely it'll be damaged.

If I remember correctly, changing the dial will also void any warranty. So, if you really want to change the dial you should either wait till after 2 years (when the warranty has expired) or you should trade the whole watch for a dial color you like.

Breitling used to offer a dial exchange, but no longer do, and as Aleister stated changing the dial is something that they won't do and runs the risk of voiding the warranty - your watch will be different from Breitling's records of what your watch should be. Also, in an unrelated thread recently it was established that part of the number between the lower lugs relates to dial colour which will then be inconsistent.

Finally, hands are designed to be single use, so unless your AD has access to new replacement hands he will have to reuse the original ones which then won't fit so well.

I'm with Aleister - I'd exchange the entire watch.
