for a 42 y.o.?

As some of you know who have been following my quest for a new watch, I have had a very difficult time deciding on something that is mixed use - business during the day and casual in the evenings...the 42 y.o. lawyer, remember?

Anyway, a good friend of mine has this watch and recommended it to me today. I actually went to a local dealer and tried it on and liked it more than I thought I would.

Would you guys recommend it?

This is what I have considered to date from the start of my quest, in order, and my current view on that watch:

1. Super Avenger and Navitimer World simultaneously (eliminated because of sheer size)
2. Rolex Exp 11 42 mm (Rolex taking too long to ship to dealers, inability to see in the flesh)
3. Rolex datejust ii and panerai 359 simultaneously (datejust still under consideration but not the best choice for casual, Pam 359, still under heavy consideration)
4. chronomat b01 (just really beginning to consider).

Please be easy on me...None of the "Man, just buy a freakin watch already" stuff...please. I'm in a very delicate and emoational state right now!! :?

BTW - my wife likes the DSSD...

DSSD is a great option, but is a little on the large side for me...especially if you are going to wear it with dress shirt. If you are only going with one watch then I would suggest either the GMTIIc or the Sub-c. Both work equally well as dress/casual watches, and have a timeless design so they will still be great options 20 years from now regardless of the current trends.

EDIT: As far as Breitling is concerned, I would pick the now discontinued Chronomat Evolution (you can still find them new at most AD's). The bezel is much more attractive than the Chronomat 01 IMO. The other added benefit of picking a Breitling is that they look killer on bracelet, croc strap, and rubber strap...so it is like getting 3 watches.

I personally really like the DSSD.

If you're opening up the Breitling box, the bezel of the Chronomat 44 puts me (like many others) off. If you're looking for something smaller than the SA or NW but still flexible for day/ night, i agree that the Evo is fantastic. Or you could try the (also discontinued but still readily available) BLACKBIRD!

Actually the DJ II will suit fine casually also... maybe just in stainless steel though...

I also second the sub or even a chronomat evo...

I'd agree with your wife. If you still want to consider the Chronomat B01, I'd consider looking at the Flying Fish or even the Chronomat B01 limited edition. Both are little less subtle with their brushed finishs and would look good with jeans a t shirt. I've been told the Explorer 2s will start showing up in November and it's one you should really consider. If your AD doesn't have a wait list for it, I'd wait it out and see it in the flesh before settling for anything else.

42 is the new 32, right? I could be wrong about that though

I dont think its too flashy. I second the idea of a brushed version B01 if youre worried about flash.

I agree with these statements too. The evo chronomat is a really nice watch especially with a nice crisp black dial.

I was never a fan of the date just 2 until I saw this combo. If it wasn't for the fluted bezel this watch would be perfect. As it stands, it's a bit flashy for me but definitely can be worn in a casual setting.

Perhaps the Breguet Type XXI?....

Very classy - my next planned purchase - although a little way off yet!

Even the SS bracelet version has a white gold fluted bezel. It sort of cuts down on the use and enjoyment in different settings as I found myself being very pre-scratch paranoid. The fluted bezel on my former DJ2 was what turned me away from it. Just too flashy.

I third the Evo suggestion. There are always good 1-3 year old models avialable on the boards between $2800-$3200. Sure it has some flash, but not nearly what the B01 has. And it is such a classic design.

OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE - Man, just buy a freakin watch already!!!!
