Post subject:  Transocean Chrono - I so want one

Hi guys, nice to see you are all still here.
Saw the new Transocean Chrono in the flesh for the first time this weekend. This one was steel, had the mercury silver dial, on steel mesh bracelet. I've not been as excited as this about a watch for the last few years, and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. The display back is the icing on the cake.
The only downside is the price...I've not visited you guys for quite a while, but prices have jumped a heck of a lot since '08.
I've resisted the lure of a new Ling for so long, I almost thought I'd become immune...but no, the Transocean has hauled me back in. And so the agony starts again...how to afford it, how long till I can, etc etc. I'll be trying to do this without selling any of my existing three so it could take some time.
Anyone here already have one ? How are you getting on with it ?

I was in the same shoes. That's why I ordered one in July. Currently waiting delivery of mine. I had issue with the price as well. In the end I ended up ordering one through "FEAR".

Meanwhile here are a few links that will drive you mad.

Cheers

I love both the Chrono and non Chrono T/O. I just need to wait about 200 yrs for them to come down in price on the 2nd hand market.

 And fleeting it certainly was. They are now the latest member of the fake-peddling-tat banned list.

:) Many thanks for posting the links Brez...lovely photos in there.
Apart from its obvious ancestry, I'm actually pleased it looks so much like the '60s Toptime 810 too.
Great design is timeless, and personally I think Breitling have made a good call in keeping the new Transocean classically clean and simple. I know theres more to it under the skin, but its the first watch in years that I've given more than a passing glance at (and I've looked at quite a few)...ironic then thats its not a bang bang whizzy whizzy bling bling watch that is now calling to me, but such a simple and endearingly understated one. To top it all, it happens to be a Breitling too.

This watch didn't appeal to me when I saw in on Breitling's site but when I tried one on at an AD in Los Angeles this week I was taken by how clean and wonderful it was. I went in looking for a Super Avenger and ended up walking out trying to figure out a way to justify the TO Chrono. ...i even like the series number on that one.

Well, just under seven days to go before I pick up the TO and all hells let loose. Recently two cars under my financial remit have had issues, plus an unplanned but maritally necessary long weekend in Bruges, have together rather dented the fund. On top of that, what the hell possessed me to gear up for such a big purchase at the start of Christmas, and slap bang in the middle of her 'change' without even the spark of a plan B.
So, here I sit, having had a couple of hours of the worst kind of reality check ever handed out to me. She's absolutely right of course, Christmas was not socially engineered just for me, and yes, I admit that there are others in my family that I could think of at this special time...heck, I've even accepted that she has family too...I'm not really sure how I've lived this long without realising that till now TBH, but apparently I've always been living for numero uno.
Doesn't she realise the hardships I've personally endured recently so that the upcoming purchase can be even slightly justifiable ? I've not bought a Robert Graham shirt for months....Crocket and Jones have not had my patronage since March for goodness sakes, and I postponed fitting the big single turbo on my Supra at least until the good weather picks up again.
Theres no reasoning with her...Rotating four Breitlings is far more 'aesthetic' that rotating three, a fact that I'm so convinced about that I tried it on with her...I thought this argument would stem the flow of wrath, but incredibly it made it worse. She would actually 'aesthetic' my ass right now had the eye of the storm not whoosed upstairs to trash the bathroom.
I've been here before, three times before in fact, but this ones a significant event. The kids agree with her, even the cat looks at me as if to say 'wow...good going son...looking forward to having your side of the bed, cuz you wont be needing it any time soon'.
It will, again, blow over eventually I'm sure (the purchase, if not the menopause) but its going to take a while...at least until the next long weekend abroad.

@ewen - Your TO will now forever be known as your guilt watch. Expect it to be mentioned in a related or non-related argument for the coming weeks, months, and years. Best of luck.

The hell with all that psycho babble guilt BS. Typical woman, getting allies ( the kids etc). You work every day, you provide for your family....you can treat yourself to a beautiful timepiece. Are you taking food off your families table? Have you committed a crime? NO. Women get their purses, their shoes, their makeup, their har and face products. Etc.. You get a watch. She needs to accept that and keep quiet. The fact that you are able to buy a Breitling TO is a testament to your hard work and good decisions up to this point in your life.....don't fall for the guilt bullshit.....

ENJOY!

:) Maybe I should have ended my recent post by stating 'a dramatisation based on real events'. We are fine now, making up was fun last night. I've signed a four year deal with her involving various attractive areas of Europe...all is calm. On a (slightly) serious note, it came to light last night that it was not in fact the imminent purchase that set her off, but the model ship I'm building from scratch in the living room. Obvious really...shouting at me about buying yet another watch really meant that I should clean up the model ship yard before all our Christmas guests arrive. I never have, and never will understand women but rest assured that when it comes to watches I'll continue to do the crime, well prepared to do the time.
