I was at the Costco in Oakbrook IL and they had a Breitling Chrono, black dial w/ romans for $4k, hell of a deal. And, I know, it's considered "grey market", but that's a great price if you're looking for that model.

How can it be "grey market," because Costco isn't an AD?

That's what would make it "grey market". None AD purchase ( through internet or resale from one AD to another jewler)

boogiebot is right. If you get a good deal and have an issue, they will take it back no problem. I got my first nice watch - an Omega Seamaster Bond there in 2003 for $1150? It's the automatic version, non coaxial. They go for over 3k now.

4k is a good deal, but a good AD can get you right around there as well. I love Costco (I seriously buy everything but clothes there), but id rather get it from an AD for $100 or so more.

I was checking out on Omega aqua terra there and asked about the warranty. The sales person told me that if anything goes wrong , or even if you don't like it, you can return it no questions asked. He said a customer returned a watch a few years after purchasing it.

I was told at a Seattle Costco that you can only return the watch within the first year of ownership (that is their jewelry policy, apparently), however they will service it for life. The salesperson also claimed that if they could not service it they would give you a refund. But then another Costco, also in Seattle, told me one could return the watch any time. So I am confused, but I would double-check with a manager just to make sure. No matter what, though, I think even a 1-year return policy is pretty generous...plenty of time to see if the watch is running OK.

I'm not sure how they actually service a Breitling, or if would want them to do it.

Given that they aren't an AD they can't get Breitling parts. At a guess they just outsource the work to a local watchmaker and you get generic parts, re-applied hands, etc.

If you buy from Costco you have to treat it like any other grey market purchase - no warranty coverage beyond replacement and only worth it if the serial is intact so that Breitling will service it.

This is one of the reasons why Breitling disappoints me....as much as I love my watch and the brand, why would you diminish the brand by selling it at Costco.

I'm in the market for the new SuperOcean - my local AD is already offering me a 25% discount off retail - I can probably get it for cheaper than that.

Does anyone really pay retail for a Breitling? And if so - why? It's crazy.

That is why I don't understand the logic behind the new Breitling Store coming to NYC this autumn - who in their right mind will pay full retail regardless if they have the money or not when AD's offer such discounts - LMAO

Also please note that Breitling USA is not selling to Costco or atleast not directly that is why they are selling grey market watches - which is fine by me as long as the serial numbers are intact & therefore they can be ultimately serviced by Breitling.

Best Regards,

Enezdez

I don't think this is being authorized by Breitling so I wouldn't hold it against them. I believe other members have seen Rolex, Panerai, and Omegas all being sold at costco. I don't think I'd say it diminishes the appeal of the brand, but you're still better off buying from an AD.

The people working there also handle questions on video games, champagne, crab legs, motor scooters, folding chairs, blu rays, etc. That may be why you are getting conflicting answers. Don't let them direct you in a purchase like this, particularly when an AD can get you almost the same price.
