Post subject: | Overhaul additional costs? |
Question for those who are experienced in such matters. I am considering a used Breitling, which runs well today. One piece of advice I received was that I could potentially be looking at significant repair costs should I encounter an issue. Now, I know that the complete BUSA overhaul is about $700 and seems to basically refurbish the entire watch. My question is what other costs might I be looking at over and above the cost of an overhaul, or is everything included in that price (wishful thinking I suspect)? Thanks! |

Depends on the model you have and which country youre in. Current USA prices are $350, $560, $680, and $750, for Basic auto, chrono, Chrono with complications, and B01, respectively. If parts need replacement, i.e. damaged crown or gears, scratched crystal, case dented beyond repair, etc., youll get billed for the parts. If its just cosmetic, you can refuse the repairs and just have it serviced and refinished. If the repairs are necesary for the watch to function correctly, they are mandatory. |

That's a little bit like a 'how long is a piece of string' question. As RJ cubed says mechanical repairs aren't optional and costs could run well over $1,000 and headed for $2,000 if things are neglected / damaged. |

Think of it like a car. There's routine maintenance, and then there are repairs. Sometimes you might get lucky and the thing that needs to be repaired is something that would be dealt with in a routine servicing. Quite often, though, the repair is going to cost you more. And unfortunately, watch repairs can cost as much as car repairs, even though your watch didn't cost nearly as much as your car. Go figure. But also consider, except for repairs covered under the initial warranty, this is something all watch owners potentially face. Anybody with a Breitling over two years old is looking at taking repair costs on the chin. |
