Hi, (I am a super newbie and learning about Breitlings)

I just want to find out why is the steelfish (pre-owned) hard to find? I was told several times- it's been discontinued. However, it seemed like it is available (new) at the Breitling's website?
http://breitling.com/en/models/superoce ... /index.php
(and it looks the same as the older models)
So, what do they mean "discontinued"? Did they stop making the steelfish? or just the old models?
I am in need of Steelfish - 101 please...

(note: I was shopping for a steelfish for a wedding gift to my fiance). Now, I am worried that he won't like it because it's a discontinued item). Will the steelfish hold it's market value? Any thoughts is highly appreciated.

Thanks

The Steelfish was discontinued earlier this year. Breitling's website is famous for being inaccurate.

It's hard to find because it's an iconic model and now that it's discontinued people are snapping them up.

Steelfish are hard to find because breitling have stopped making them and they are a very well liked watch. You will find many members here who are enamored by the steelfish. I am not sure why Breitling has not removed this watch, the site has a few other watches still on there that have also been discontinued.

If you go to the For Sale section there are a few for sale:

Good luck on your search! I'm sure you fiance will love it.

I would not worry at all about the discontinued aspect of the watch you choose. If he likes it, which I am sure he will, he will like it regardless of the model not being in the current line-up.

Secondly, I read that you were initially interested in a Colt, and are now looking at SteelFish....These two are both very nice examples of the rider-tab era Breitling. The Fish will be a bit thicker and larger than say a Colt II Auto, which will make it a bit sportier. The Colt has a smaller and thinner case which will wear a bit more traditional. Depending on your future hubbies lifestyle it may be worth looking at a Colt of the same heritage.

Finally, and I mention this bc I saw you inquiring about the SteelFish X-plus with the older Professional bracelet. The current SteelFish has the newer and IMO less dated, Pro II. Just thought it was worth noting.

There are threads her and on other large forums fawning over the Steelfish. The fact that it is discontinued makes it more desireable IMO. They coome up all the time for sale here as well as timezone and watchuseek. Be very careful of ebay as there is a nearly perfect Chinese fake available. Anything you may find, post the link here and we can help you out.

What about the steelfish do so many like? It looks nice, but never really noticed it. If I ever did get one I would like it in the color of Sharkman's last post with the leather band (I would get steel).

First off, I really don't get that rationale. Just because something isn't the current model doesn't make it undesirable. If that were the case, nobody would like an 1811 Chateau D'Yquem, the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa, or Sean Connery's Bond. Classic is classic. If the classic is no longer in production, that just makes it more classic. Second, when it comes to Breitling, your fear is almost diametrically opposite the reality: for the most part, virtually all of the desirable Breitlings have been discontinued.

The SO Steelfish is one of the most beautiful watches ever made by Breitling and is a true classic. It is also very versatile as it looks great on both formal and casual wear. You will get a lot of compliments when wearing this watch.

IMO, The silver white dial with the arrow hand is the best version of this watch.

And, now, a collectible at that.

What more can you ask for?

I still prefer the black dial, but when I strap on the white dial/gold croco, I don't feel like I'm wearing second best. :lingsrock:

I like my silver dial that's what Breitling calls it. In reallity it's cream with a white rehaut.

What's not to love about that? It's rugged on a bracelet and perfect for the beach but the leather band brings it back and adds a little class. This one is the 44mm from 2009 with the arrow head seconds hand.
