Post subject: | To change dial color or not? |
I have my early model chrono D13047 in for service, it's been sitting unworn for about 15 years and the movement is completely dry. It is SS w/gold bezel and blue dial w/gold subdials, similar to Blue Angels model. In addition to the service all hands will replaced which is not so costly. Of question is some discoloration or corrosion on one of the gold subdials and the only remedy is to replace the dial, unfortunately I cannot locate that blue dial. The watchmaker has an off white color newer model dial available with applied wings logo (not painted) and arabic numerals. Will replacing with this type of dial toss out any possibilty of selling this watch down the road? Sorry for no pictures. |

Assuming that it's a Breitling watchmaker you will be fine, but it sounds like the service is being performed by a non Breitling factory authorised watchmaker in which case changing the dial is a very bad idea. Breitling will either refuse to touch the watch in the future or will charge to replace the non authorised dial - either is bad news if you ever want to sell it because the buyer will be faced with a huge bill or an unserviceable watch. |

Thank you for the info, the service is being done by a service center listed on Breitling's site. They have done work for me in the past. Very reputable. |
