I've just asked my AD for a price to give my CSO it's first service. I was told it was £360 plus additional costs if parts are needed etc but if I went with their 'Breitling certified watchmaker' then it would be cheaper. When I asked if he used genuine Breitling parts they told me that he did - he got them from BUK. They also told me that if anything goes wrong in future then Breitling would still repair/service it. I always thought that my watch had to go back to BUK for them to service it. Can anyone give me a definitive answer please?

The AD is working in the grey area. Breitling service should be through BUK (for the UK), but ADs with Breitling certified watchmakers are allowed to perform simple repairs / regulation / etc and as a result is able to order parts from Breitling. They aren't supposed to do a full servicing, but they are capable of it and as long as the only parts needed are regular consumables then there won't be an issue.

I wouldn't chance it IMHO.
Send it to BUK.

Thanks Roff. So does that mean that if during a 'routine' service something serious was found to be wrong they should either send it back to me or to BUK for them to deal with it. I've had it for 6 years so it's due a service...hasn't missed a beat up to now though and it's my daily beater.

Agreed. Go with BUK.

BUK wouldn't be thrilled to discover that the AD was doing their own service work so it wouldn't be a simple case of admitting that they had found a more serious problem.

I'm actually slightly surprised that they can access all of hte parts - mainspring and balance complete in particular.

is it having issues at the moment or are you just servicing it because you think it's about time? If it's performing fine, don't waste your money just yet as it's not uncommon to get a few extra years in. When it starts acting up you send it in.

From what I understood it's different from the us and canada to the uk and most of Europe. I may be wrong but I thought it's how roff said here, but in Europe the wathmakes are trained in Switzerland and can do full service and still have the warraty. Here they are allowed limited minor service and light repairs, but because they can train them in Switzerland on how they want it done, they do a lot more. Need to hear fro

Canadian AD watchmakers are Breitling trained (in Switzerland).

No RJ, it's working just as good as the day I got it and it's well within COSC spec. It's just that I'm keen to keep it that way. I may just leave the service a year or two unless it develops a specific issue then...like you say, no point in wasting money and I'm a firm beliver in not fixing something that ain't broke!
