Does anybody know the statistics of how many watches Breitling was making each year between 2000 and 2010? Or maybe someone knows where to look for the statistics? I have googled it, and here's the result: one source says around 200,000, but my Breitling catalogue "L'annuel des Montres 2011" says it's 700,000. That's quite a big difference, so I don't know which number to believe.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

Actual production numbers aren't published but you can see how many Breitlings have been COSC Certified each year...and since all Breitlings are COSC Certified this is a decent estimate of production.

2010 numbers should be out soon from COSC, they seem to be getting later and later. They always used to be in late August, last year was September and there hasn't been anything yet this year.

That is interesting. Also interesting is that Rolex had more COSC certs than Omega and Breitling combined, by a wide margin. With that level of production, it's a bit surprising Rolex seems as exclusive a brand as it does.

Rolex has more than the top 9 combined, not just Breitling and Omega. I've said it a few times before, if you read up on Rolex the company, their quite impressive what they're able to do in terms of production, marketing, distribution, materials, facilities...they're pretty awesome.

Rolex also held up much better when production hits occurred with the recession. If you compare 2008 and 2009 numbers Rolex was down 20%, but Breitling was down 55% and Omega 50%

It will be interesting to see how the others have bounced back vs. Rolex in the 2010 numbers.

True. I'm just not sure how many of the other brands only put out watches with certified movements. I was commenting on overall production, using the number of attestations as an indicator. For a brand like TAG Heuer, the number of attestations is not an indication of total production, since most of their models don't have certified movements.

I agree Rolex is awesome. And yet, a general principle of supply and demand is not to over-supply, or demand will go down. Then there is elitist appeal: if a lot of people have a particular thing, that thing doesn't seem as "special." You would think with so many Rolexes on the market, relative to other luxury brands, Rolex might seem common. Yet Rolex seems to be able to defy these rules by putting out lot of product, and still maintaining its demand and elitist appeal.
