I really love the Transocean Chrono. So clean and smooth.

I really want it in Gold w/ a black Dial on a Brown Croc. Since Gold is so high, is it even worth it to purchase one at current rate? I know there would be a super high premium, that in years could go back down. Would I eventually lose more money?

You are more than doubling the retail price of the watch from about $8K to maybe $20K. Not sure because of all the price increases. But it's close to that. You would likely get a better % discount, but still...........

And gold watches do not hold value despite being made of gold.

Hey Mate,

It depends on how much you love the watch and if you are going to sell the watch. It doesn't matter what price gold is, you haven't lost money until you have sold it, and I guess the price will be up and down over the years so you could pick the time to sell.

Cheers

The premium on gold watches has little to do with the value of gold. The premium is partially because it's harder to work gold than steel or titanium, but largely just an exercise in balancing supply and demand - they charge a fortune because they can.

Well it's either new or to find pre-owned... but probably that might be a bit difficult...

Just make sure to really try it in the flesh first. The idea of liking/wanting a gold piece might be much greater than the actual satisfaction when it's on your wrist. I managed to realize in time that yellow gold doesn't work well on my wrist... :)
