A NOS B-1!

Image

I've been thinking about a superquartz, and have always liked the B-1. I stumbled on this, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The seller is a dealer, and put in a new battery plus sent me two additional links just in case I needed them.

When I unwrapped it, there was plastic on the crystal and the back, and it didn't have a mark on it.

I have no idea how to use it yet, but I was able to set the time!

This joins my Headwind and Crosswind Special as part of my current crop of Breitlings, all of which I love.

What an awesome piece! I have always loved the B1 - just got an LE Airwolf and have been comparing it to the B-1. It should take no time at all to learn the functions. It is very user friendly. My new Airwolf attached...

not to threadjack....beside the bezel and numbers on the dial, what other differences between the B-1 and Airwolf? functions, dimensions, movement?

Wow, great find! I wouldn't have thought there'd be any NOS B-1's still around after all this time. Good pickup!

Essentially not a lot. Breitling apparently upgrade the movements in very minor ways over the years, so the Airwolf will have a newer movement although both the B-1 and Airwolf run the B78 movement, so the functions are the same. The Airwolf is fractionally larger - 0.3mm bigger in diameter, and 0.2mm taller, but nothing to write home about. Apart from that, and the aesthetic differences, they're basically the same.

Worth noting of course that only the later B-1's were SQ, whereas all the Airwolf models are SQ. Gpension's one is SQ incidentally.

In addition to the changes Driver8 captured, the Airwolf also has slightly different contoured "fan blades" on the case back and a turbofan engine "swirly" on the center of case back versus Brietling logo. Also, there is a chopped off "6" on the Airwolf dial (not applicable to LE's which have the baton instead) where the B-1 "6" is fully incorporated. But like Driver8 said, all other functions are the same.

As much as I try to stay away from quartz (personal preference), I have a Citizen Skyhawk AT given to me as a gift and used for beating and timing my other pieces... but this piece has been my guilty pleasure for some time... nice! I absolutely love the turbine caseback...

Thanks everyone!

I travel a lot, and have a Seamaster GMT. But I'm really not a fan of the 24hr GMT hand. It works and looks great, but I don't use 24 hr clocks on a regular basis, so always find myself doing a quick calculation, especially as I'm jumping between zones.

I love the fact that on the B-1 I can set my second timezone to a 12 hr clock, with am/pm indicator. It also is cool the way it cycles through the zones when it's set.

I work in a business casual environment, but it's on the formal end, and I think I can wear it here with no issues. I'll reserve judgement on whether it's a "keeper" since I have a a horrible track record of following through on my initial reactions....

A couple more pics!

Awesome! That is truly an amazing find. The B-1 Superquartz (black dial) is the perfect Superquartz aviation tool watch in my opinion. The ONLY reason I sold mine was to fund my limited edition Airwolf, which has sentimental value. The B-1 has a perfect size and the functions are great. Like you, I used mine when I traveled and found it to be the perfect companion. Copgrats on a wonderful find, and if you don't warm up to it, let me know.

Here's my old one, and my new Airwolf.
