Looking to buy a dress watch for my return to a less casual work environment. I was wearing an Omega 300M Chrono at the beginning of the summer but switched over to a SO44 with a rubber strap midsummer. Love wearing the SO and will continue to wear it on weekends but need to be dressier in a few weeks on a M-F basis. Searching through the Breitling models, I really like the Transocean (non Chrono). Has a really nice, classic look to it. Also looked at the Omega Aqua Terra 8500 and really liked that as well. I like the in-house movement and transparent caseback. Finally, for slightly less money, I can get a just-serviced Rolex DateJust with warranty. A little smaller in size but classic look.

So curious to hear some perspective on what other people think, which they would choose, and why.

Just went through the same thing Czar. Wound up with a Steelfish and a black dial SMP 300.

The SMP is dressier than my old blue dial, enough that I think I was able to pull it off at work even though it is still a diver.

Out of your list, if the AT is a teak dial, that would be hard to beat. I'd put it ahead of the TO and coming in third the Datejust.

Good call on the SMP in black - got the black Chrono. Problem is its too big, and I think too busy & sporty, for work.

I was leaning toward the AT but I really like the heritage and timeless look of the datejust.

I think the Datejust would suit nicely... it's a very versatile piece IMO... and if the bracelet is too bling, then you can always change it to a nice leather strap and it'll still look nice... not quite sure what your size preferences are though... because I'm sure you know if you can't rock the 36mm, then you're probably better off getting one of the other two...

The one thing I don't like about the Transocean is the mesh bracelet. I'd go with the preowned Datejust.

If a new Transocean is in your range than I would def pass on the older Datejust. The Aqua Terra and Transocean are both great choices, but of the two I would have to say the Transocean just because I have never been much of an Omega guy.

However, I bet you could also find some other watches in that range that might offer more for the buck. I just found the JLC Ultra Thin Moon and am in love.

TO on leather, followed by the other two.

Aqua Terra in first place for me. The in-house 8500 is a real thing of beauty and the display back alone makes it the worth the price.

Rolex second as it's a genuine classic.

TO non-chrono in 3rd by some margin. While I think the TO Chrono is one of the nicest watches Breilting currently make, I think the TO non-chrono is the most dull and boring thing they make. Plus it has no in-house movement so it's very much the poor relation of the other two IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

The DateJust would be the smaller size from the 90's - 38mm I believe. I have a 7.5" wrist, so that's definitely wearable but on the low end for me.

I can see how the Transocean looks a little boring but I actually like its simple look.

I was really also really impressed with the AT I'm person, and the in-house movement at nearly the same price I a big selling point. I would get either on leather.

Love the JLC - googled it. Think it's out of my price range though.

If he could swing the extra money for the JLC MUT Moon then that would be the clear winner IMO. A lot of bang for your buck with this one, and very elegant with that super thin case!!

I think I'd need to make a careful decision here - my wife or a moon phase ;)
