Recently sent in my Old Navitimer II for service thru my AD in Canada and they came back to me with a quote for $750CAD for "full-service" including seals and polishing. Is this a fair price?

Now, I know that they sent the watch to Gerry at Breitling direct in Ontario (Canada), but what sort of markup would a dealer typically add to the service bill (if any)?

When you guys need service, do you deal with Breitling directly, or do you recommend going thru an AD?

Thanks.

I always go direct just because I find many AD's don't treat customer's watches with much respect. The only issue is ensuring you have adequate insurance sending it yourself : if you go via an AD, the insurance issue is their problem. I don't think AD's add a markup, but then I wouldn't know for certain as I always go direct.

There's no such thing as Breitling Canada. The service centre is a wholly owned subsidiary of Grigoros, the company that has Breitling distribution rights in Canada and owns the La Swiss chain of ADs.

There is no additional cost for sending through an AD. The service centre sends the AD a commission, but if you send the watch directly to Toronto the price will be the same andthe service centre will keep the commission.

In terms of cost, a standard full service costs around $550 plus hands and tax. $750 is entirely in line if there are a couple of additional minor items or if it's been longer than the recommended service window.
