After having watched a video on how Breitling make their watch cases I wondered how long it takes to actually make the entire watch from start to finish, or if it differs between models? Anyone on here know? |

Anyone on here know? Breitling claims months - there are numbers in The Book from memory, but realistically the time to manufacture the watch needs better definition. I'm sure that it is months from start to finish but there is a lot of sitting around doing nothing in that time. The biggest time delay is the movement which is assembled and tested and then adjusted internally before being sent to COSC for testing. When it comes back in then needs to be mated with the dial and hands and then cased up before further testing before being sent to the QA department. Of course in parallel you have all of the case, dial, etc processes. It would be tough to come up with a really accurate estimate of how much actual time is spent on the various processes, but it would be measured in hours of human effort vs. days, plus the various automated processes. |

Thanks. I was thinking it would be quite some time from start to finish. Just wondered how long really although I do agree with what you said about measuring it in hours rather than days/months. As far as models go, do you think manufacturing time would be more for a seawolf compared to say a navitimer due to the extra pressures the case has to withstand, size etc? |

Where was the video? Wouldn't mind a link if you have time to post it. |

No. In fact time on aeromarine pieces will be slightly less if anything due to fewer parts in the case (which is designed to keep costs down). Water resistance is about how parts fit together, use of gaskets, etc rather than anything else and size doesn't make much difference on watches themselves - on movements obviously a small complex movement will take longer than a large simple movement. |

The video was on YouTube unfortunately as my laptop is dead i am using my phone at the minute and can't copy and paste, think i searched "Breitling maintenance" or something like that. Thanks Roff, i see what you are saying regarding the different models. |
