my evo is running slightly fast. before it was running approx 1-2 seconds fast per day, than i tried positioning it differently while i wasnt wearing it at night, crown up, crown down, caseback down, etc. and it appears to have sped up a bit more. i didnt check for a few days, and it appears to have gained 15 sec or so over the weekend. is it normal for a watch to gain a different amount or should it be consistent? if inconsistent would that be a problem? or is it still just a matter of settling in? been wearing the watch for about 2 weeks now. thanks for any help.

Hello Rhequest,

how long do You have Your watch, and was it in the shopwindow before You bought it or brand new from the wholesaler?

Hot spots during display can kill the lubrication of the watch. Also I would recommend wearing the watch for about 6 weeks before starting to measure time differences.

Variations during the day are normal. Best thing to do is to reset the time based on a reliable source ie an atomic clock, and check back again after a month. From there check out the deviation and you'll see how much per day it is fast or slow by.

Generally speaking, yes automatic watches do tend to gain over time. Sure there is a mean variance, but over longer periods they will almost always gain slightly. Bear in mind the COSC requirements for a Chronometer are -4/+6 seconds a day, so if you only gain around a second a day you are well within chronometer rating.

thanks for the replies. like i said, i've had the watch for about 2 weeks now. i'm not sure where the watch was stored prior to buying it. they only had the silver dial at the ad i was at, so they couriered the mother-of-pearl dial in from the head office. i'll try waiting for another month or so before checking again. haha i was just using the m/s clock when i first come in to work to get a ballpark estimate. thanks again.
