I was passing threw the Mall today when I couldn't help glancing threw the window of a Breitling dealers shop window, apart from the designs from the Navitimer, Aeromarine, superOcean etc I noticed how many of them are becoming quite Bling like the Windrider Cockpit done in BI colour and the bezel in diamonds both men and womens, personally I'm finding it areal same that there so many bling watches now from them. Am I alone on this thought or are there others that share the same opinion as me?

There have been Blingy Breitlings for years, but if anything the thrust of the 2011 models is away from Bling. Hard to look at a rubber bezels a blingy.

Polished watches will always have some bling factor. Personally though, I don't find a watch to qualify as Bling unless it's polished and very large - 48+mms. The SA is a perfect example. The entire Bentley line save the the discontinued Mark VI is the Bling Range of Breitling for sure. The Cockpits you saw were special pieces. A normal Cockpit, now discontinued for over a year, is not blingy at all in my book. It is simply too small.

In sum, there are Bling models in the Breitling lineup, but they are not the majority. One of the recurring themes you will see on this site is the general confusion over the direction Breitling is currently going. Some would argue there is no direction and that is the problem. I'm one of those. But a general shift toward Bling? I don't see it.

BTW, welcome to breitlingsource!!!! :lingsrock:

Thankyou very much, I will enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others about our passions of Wristwatches. I do agree on the fact that Rubber bands are not Bling but the SOH for example can be bought in a mesh band, I wear my SO daily at the moment on a rubber divers strap. I just feel that Breitling are going a abit too flashy, were as in the start they were classy and yes bling but not in the same way.

I'm with Sharkman, they seem to be moving away from the 'bling' factor. There is a reason why Breitling was popular with the rap music community in recent years - because they had the bling factor, so no need to move towards it.

I don't feel that the mesh bracelet is particularly blingy, and I don't see that a polished watch on a bracelet automatically becomes blingy. I am not a fan of the diamond bezels, and they certainly ramp up the bling factor, but they have been available for years, they aren't indicative of a current trend.

I always assumed that the Bentley models were bought by young ostentatious types who are drawn to the bling like a magpie.
But my experience on Ebay I would suggest they are more popular with very old men. Whenever a dodgy Bentley is for sale on Ebay, it is frequently an inheritance from their late grandad

As others have said, I don't see a particular move towards bling compared to previously : the bling has always been there to a certain extent on account of Breitling selling a lot of polished watches on polished bracelets. Additionally Breitling have for a long time offered diamond encrusted gents watches, which it's no secret I'm not a fan of.

Personally I think it's less of Breitling changing in the bling regard, but more that some of their established buyers change their preferences over time.

I have always find that the more Blingy breitlings give you that initial wow factor but it soon wears off and I find myself tiring with the watch after a few days/weeks. With the brushed or titanium versions you don't always get that initial wow factor but the watch continues to grow on me which is why the following are amongst my favourites....
Blackbird Big Date.
Ti Chrono Avenger
SS Seawolf
Having said all that there is a very nice polished Chronomat B01 taunting me to buy it on SC that I find myslef drawn to. :?

Hiya

Well I think that the size alone of some Breitlings cause them to be more noticable than others.

My White Nav World has drawn many comments. It's a big bright beautiful thing!

I think it's only a few AD's that stock any diamond encrusted monsters thankfully.

Anyhow more importantly, much like threads describing newly acquired Breitlings but having no pictures attached are incomplete, Any thread discussing Breitling Bling and Rap are not complete without reference to our old friend

I certainly didn't spend the money I did for my watch to look like your average Citizen or Seiko. I could have bought a Rolex but the Breitling has so much more of the WOW factor. Why would you drop $10,000 on a watch that looks plain Jane? That doesn't make sense to me.

From my own experience no other timepieces that I own are able to turn heads like my Breitling Super BLING-BLING Avenger.

Maybe its the super shiny bling or maybe its the super size but it gets noticed and admired a lot even from people who are not into watches.
