Hi there,
can anyone tell me if Breitling only provides repair service (not warranty) on watches, which have a serial number engraved and included warranty card?

What about watches without serial number and no warranty card? Will Breitling refuse repair service?

I believe Breitling are VERY strict about the serial number on their watches, and demand for it to be intact when it comes to warranty/servicing work.

So if it's been polished off (as is the case with many grey dealers) then Breitling will not touch it.

Hi

I understand that the serial number (which is actually the serial number of the mechanical movement) is engraved inside the back of the watch as well as on the outside, and is presumably on the movement itself.

Yes, having or not having the warranty card doesn't matter at all for non-warranty work. However the serial number on the caseback is extremely important as, historically at least, Breitling have refused to touch any watch that is missing it's serial number.

(I say "historically" because things might have changed as Breitling have relaxed about some things over the years. You're best bet will be to contact your country's Breitling HQ - i.e. BUSA or BUK etc - and just ask the question.

In other threads people have mentioned their external serial no being polished off as part of the Breitling service! And people complained So I hope Breitling are flexible especially if they have removed the no.

If they have a record of servicing the watch then there is no issue. However, if a watch that Breitling has never serviced is presented without a caseback serial number then it's a pretty good indication of a grey market watch and as Driver8 says, historically that made it a no go.
