I found a nice breitling watch online and the seller says he does not have any of the paperwork such as certificate and such. Is this normal in the world of watches? Should I commit and buy?

Thanks

It happens, but it's also the story told by 99% of the fakes that are sold. Post pictures in the replica section and we'll soon tell you if there is anything to worry about.

thanks for your reply. I will take it to a breitling store to confirm it's legit. I just want to know if I should buy one without papers or stay away?

Thanks

There will always be watches for sale without box and/or papers. As already stated above, if you want to be 100% in the future, then simply post the link in the Replica ID section. It's really that simple and you will usually have a definitive answer within an hour.

Edit - also there are some fakes - Steelfish, Heritage, Chronomat Evo are some, that a very close and my personal experience is most Breitling ADs won't know what to look for and can make the wrong call on an exterior inspection. And why have them crack the caseback to confirm if it's not necessary. I purposely fooled a local AD with a fake Steelfish just to educate them. They had no idea that really good fakes were out there. They would have bought it from me.

I did buy one without papers but it was on a well known UK watch forum from a well known seller with a good history. But even still I sent it to Breitling UK for authentication (and it need a service anyway). If it is a COSC version (will be something like A17350 instead of A17050) then they will be able to order that certificate for you and you can aslo buy the instruction book from them. So with that and the recepit from Breitling you then have an authenticated watch with papers.

Id post pics here any day over taking it to an AD. As Sharkman says, most of them dont even have a fraction of the knowledge of the fake spotters here.

I think it will affect resale price (if that matters to you). But my guess is you're already paying less for it now. I kind of like having the boxes and paper work anyway. Just seems kinda cool. :D
