To me, this is a design flaw. The inside edge on the inside of the tang buckle is very sharp, even to touch, and rips the leather on all my straps when tightened to fit on the wrist. IMO this edge should be well rounded so as to stop or minimize the ripping of the leather when tightened. This is my Black calf leather after a short period of use. Not acceptable IMO.....any one else feel this way? Pics to prove.... And the last one just could not help my self popping in ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes, I've noticed this exact same issue a while ago on Breitling buckles for leather straps. I actually took it in to my AD and mentioned it to them, they said they would 'grind' down the sharp edge for me. I haven't had them do this but took off the leather strap for the time being. If I put the strap back on I will replace the buckle with a different brand for now. It definitely is a design problem. In fact I looked at some of the older buckles the AD had in their strap case and the older ones were more rounded on this edge. It definitely cuts into the leather and stitching as your pictures show, bummer. |

Sorry to heat that breanach. And I agree with you, it shouldn't be acceptable. But it is something you would have avoided by opting for a deployant strap. ![]() Then again, that is just me. |

I've mentioned this here a few times. It is ridiculous! The only conclusion I can reach is Breitling knows exactly what they are doing - reducing the life of the strap so they sell more. You can slice lunch meat with that thing. |

This problem was actually the reason I first tried a deployant. The first Breitling on a leather strap that I ever tried on was showing a serious amount of wear on the strap just as a result of a few people trying it on in the shop! ![]() It's a definite design/finishing flaw IMO. Deployant all the way for me. |

I immediately went for that and I've never regretted it one single day since. |

I find the TB a lot more comfortable but like and probably prefer the safer option of the DLP, as in you have a full circle to hold onto not like the TB that IMO would be more easily droped...... Not happy at all about the TB sharp edge though. Now where did I put that mini-file.... |

Think I've mentioned this before as well. The first time I fitted the strap I noticed the sharp edge trying to slice it to bits, so took a needle file and 1000 grit paper to the edges under the buckle. Think how many shops must have ruined straps from just displaying the watches or people trying them on ![]() |

I have an "older" style buckle with out the raised wings also. That one seems to be more rounded. I just looked at the buckle on my cheapest watch, a $100.00 sthurling. The buckle is really rounded and seems much safer than the Breitling one. MartC, how were your results from filing down your buckle? |

Just seeing this after experiencing the same problem with a Breitling buckle. I followed the advice about filing and sanding to smooth the edge and it worked great. Not destroying my straps any more. |
