Hi All, First post here. Up until Monday, I had a superocean Heritage 46 chrono. I unfortunately forgot to take it off when jumping into the lake and the band failed(not sure how). The watch, of course, is now at the bottom of the lake. I hired a diver to try to find it, but no luck there. I then went to visit the watch store to seek advice. My advisor was sympathetic, and said she would call their rep to see what, if anything, they could offer. Waiting to hear from him/her. I have also tried to file a claim on my home owners policy, but they are not being very helpful...yet. Any idea of what I could expect/ hope for from breitling? It seems to me that the band should not fail after only 6 months? Thanks for the advice in advance. |

If it was insured i'd expect the cash from the insurance company. If it wasn't insured then I wouldn't expect much from Breitling (or any other watch company) except a 'sorry' |

Welcome to BreitlingSource, and sorry that it's under these ircumstances. Unfortunately, I very much doubt that Breitling will admit to any liability. It will be impossible for you to prove that there was a product failure vs. a problem in the way that the strap was installed (and impossible for you to prove that you didn't change the strap / bracelet yourself and not install it properly) so anything would only be a 'good faith' gesture. I have seen situations where the adjustment on a Ocean Racer strap failed because it wasn't cut exactly along the line and weakened the sidewall of the spring bar tube. The obvious failure would be a spring bar. |

How long had you been wearing it since you bought it? I had a LE SOHC that started to fall off as I had my arm out the car window at 70mph on the way home from the AD. As I brought my arm in the watch fell into my lap. The guy who sized the OR had only placed one end of the spring bar into the deploy clasp. I have no doubt I would have been given a new one. But if you have been wearing it a while, I don't think you can put any blame on the AD or reasonably expect any redress there. Sorry. |

Was your diver using a metal detector? If you have a fairly good idea where it was lost it's very likely that combination would be successful. A ring can be tough, an earring near impossible, but a watch if you know the relative area is a piece of cake. |

Now I gotta go in my attic and break out the water proof metal detector...why the hell did I put it.

Absolutely no way to prove I lost the watch. I will, however, be replacing the watch. My hope is that breitling will do the right thing and offer some discount, because I would like to get the same watch. I am not expecting them to hand me the same watch at no cost. |

That's bad news and you must be gutted! As far as Breitling go, I can't see them doing much! You could have sold it to a friend as far as they know

I lost a ling due to a failure. insurance paid me. Lesson learned. Insure your watches! I have 100k insurance on my watches and jewelry. Already paid for itself. Insurance for a 5k watch us like $80 a year or something dumb. Worth it! Sorry for your loss. I'll do what I can to hook you up on the replacement. I'm a sucker for a sad story. Don't wait long though. In 7 days its gonna cost you a couple hundred more after the price increase. |
