Post subject:  Replacement COSC Certificate
Just thought I'd update you all about my mate and his replacement COSC certificate after Jomashop removed the original from the Chronomat Evo he bought from them.

Well, the replacement certificate arrived from Breitling the other day and contrary to popular belief it was not marked as a duplicate or copy or anything else! It is therefore identical to the original. Cost him £30 but that's it.

Interesting. I was under the (obviously mistaklen) belief that the only time an exact duplicate was issued was if the original was damaged and surrendered.

Me too. I was pretty surprised when he showed me. Quite handy to know though if you lose your certifcate for whatever reason and then want to sell the watch for the best price possible.

did he have to send the watch back in? If so, was it to the local rep or back to Switzerland. I dont have one for my B-2, but its not worth it if it has to go all the way to Europe from Australia.

That is great news for when you are trying to make a deal on a Breitling with lost paperwork. Can you just contact Breitling with the model and serial number? What else needs to be done to obtain a copy of the COSC? Thanks

A COSC certificate will only be issued to the manufacturer, so Breitling has to do the asking. You don't need to send the watch in, just provide serial number.

Driver 8 has rather changed my understanding of the how it works with his original post, my understanding was that a replacement for a lost cert would be marked as duplicate, while a replacement for a damaged cert would not - clearly not the case.

I also understood that only one duplicate would be issued - after that the movement would need to be recertified, but maybe that isn't true either - it's all Driver 8's fault for causing the confusion :wink:

Sorry Roff, just to "confuse" things even more :wink: and make a slight correction to your post - my mate had to send his watch into Breitling UK. They will not accept just being given the serial number as they have no way of verifying that the watch is not actually a fake with a genuine number on it unless they can physically handle it in the service centre.

My mate sent the watch to Breitling UK Service Centre for "authentication verification" - in other words they opened it up and checked everything was genuine - then they sent the watch straight back to him with a print out confirming its authenticity. It was a round trip of less than a week and the authentication process is free of charge, so all you have to do is pay for the postage.

If you want a replacement COSC cert, they still send the watch back to you after verification ASAP so you're not without the watch for long, but the cert takes longer to arrive and costs around £30.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

I knew they were likely to ask for the watch to be validated by an AD - didn't realise that they actually required the watch.

I am trying to get hold of the COSC certificate for my Breitling B2 and Breitling UK do require you to send the watch in which I am not happy about.

Anyone that has the COSC Certificate, is it good quality paper that it comes on? What size - I'm guessing A4. Is it worth the £30 approx $55 that they charge?

I've had a couple of watches (with no docs) serviced by BUK, at which point I asked for the docs to be replaced.

They wouldn't have done it if they'd never had the watch before - the AD told me.

As some of you know I sent my EM in for warranty repair. Anyways, I asked Breitling Nordic if I could have a new COSC-certificate as the original have disappeared somewhere along the way. That would not be any problems :) so you can ask for a new/replacement certificate at the same time as you do the annual service :)

For me it is all worth it (£30) to have all documents in order :)

Just to confirm (as this is an old thread that was run as a follow up to another thread at the time), yes you do need to send the watch in to Breitling so they can confirm authenticity before they'll send out a COSC cert. It'd be all too easy for people with fakes to get official docs otherwise.

In terms of whether getting a replacement COSC "worth it", well rest assured the certificate itself is never worth £30 in terms of material alone as it's simply a piece of paper, but that's hardly the point! However, having a full set of papers and an guarantee of authenticity from Breitling is worth it's weight in gold IMO.

to follow my question, I am really happy with my B2 as most people on the forum are that I am wanting to frame the certificate to put on the wall. Do you think this is possible?
