Hi -

I have read thru alot of threads here at Breitling Source, and at a few other watch forums..and have read many posts where people mention that they take their watches to the watchmaker at their AD and was wondering what exactly an AD can do with regards to service...

I know that an AD can test a Breitling watch's seals to make sure it is still waterproof....and can also degauss a magnetized watch.

But what else can an AD do? Do AD's have watchmakers who can regulate a watch? Do other repairs? Or does anything that requires opening the case need to be done by a Breitling or a Breitling Authorized Maintenance Center?

My watch is running fine and is practically new, so hopefully I won't need to send mine in any time soon....but since I bought my watch pre-owned from a private seller (he purchased it new from an AD), I haven't gone in and asked my closest AD what exactly he can and cant do for service.

Thanks for your help.

i cant speak for other dealers, but our watchmakes are trained and certified by breitling, they use breitling parts, and can do anything breitling can do pretty much. they do full service and repairs and refinishes too. some guys dont have watchmakers on staff who an do that.

Ive been to dealers who can barely change a bracelet, and to others who have fully trained watchmakers on site to do just about any repair or service imaginable. It just depends on the dealer.

Here in Canada (and I suspect globally), Breitling imposes standards on ADs who have watchmakers - they have to have a certain level of training, they have to have a minimum amount of equipment (specific makes and models are specified), etc. That's why some of the stores don't bother to have a watchmaker on site - the costs don't make it worthwhile.

Even then there are some models that Breitling will not allow watchmakers to work with - Emergrancy, B01 movement, etc.

When it comes to things like regulating, as long as a watchmaker has a timing machine and a pressure tester there isn't really an issue (as long as the timing isn't a long way out) because it's only an adjustment and monitoring, but anything more you need to make sure that it's a watchmaker approved to work on Breitlings.

Probably the case with Breilting too but with a Rolex my AD says that their watchmaker has to do a course every year to keep there skills up to scratch, so to speak. I believe they go to Switzerland to do so.
my AD is also Certified to carry out all Breitling and Rolex work on site. Passing strict codes of practice to do so.

As usual, thanks for all of the great replies.

So if I had a watch under warranty, that wasn't keeping COSC time....and I took it into an AD that is able to service watches in house, would it be covered under warranty (of course provided the problem was something that the warranty covered in the first place)?

Thanks!

As long as they were a Breitling authorised service centre, yes.
